for those who are addicted to initial d, watch these
initial d is my favorite anime and really taught me alot about how important the driver is when it comes to racing. this is a series about a teen and his car. a 1985 toyota corolla gts sprinter trueno gt-apex model, known by its chasis code AE-86 or just eight-six, or hachi-rouku. this car is old, and considering obsolete. it only has a small 1.6 liter engine, disc brakes with rear drums and no abs. but with a 5 speed manual, rear wheel drive, limited slip differential and a perfect 50/50 weight distribution, and a finely tuned suspension, when piloted by a capable driver like takumi or his father bunta, it is an unbeatable downhill nightmare. the reason why i want to share this addition with everybody is to learn from what it teaches, technique will always outperform power. the newest fanciest gadgets and gizmos and high powered cars will never make up for poor driving skills and the most important part of a car is it's driver.
while i am aware that this is all fiction, the lessons and techniques are all great to know about.

this clip got alex (playinwithfire) hooked as soon as he saw it. now watch it with the volume up to get your blood pumping!

in addition to his facts... the engine was a 4AGE engine. later (towards the end of second stage i think.. i havent seen it in hella days) it is said to get a high rev race spec 4AGE engine. :D
and yes indeed technique > power.... a great example of this can be found in the video games :D

I have the entire first season DVD. I think I'm gonna go enjoy some now. This show got me hooked onto mid/late-80's Toyotas, and is the sole reason why I want an old Toyota MR2, 1st gen. Mk1, they call them (I think).
Has anybody seen the live-action movie they made in China, yet? I want to see it so bad.

well, one lesson that is super true is going fast in a powerful car ISN'T A SKILL! you aren't a racing super star because you can drive your car at triple digit speeds, anybody with enough open road and horsepower can do that. however attacking a corner is something that requires skills of the driver, it isn't something the car will do on its own.
some other lessons from initial d 1st stage;
1. races in civics drive dirty i.e. shingo
2. it takes two women to drive almost as good as a man, i.e. mako and sanyuri! lol.
3. new balance are the preferred footwear of street racers.

hey 909. do you mean stages? or do you mean seasons 1,2 and 4 cause 3 was the movie.
also dude the live action really really bites imo. i couldnt figure out who the supporting character was till about half way (it looked alot like iketani but had many itsuki features). i think the coolest part of the movie hands down was the ability to see all the cars from the anime very well translated into life.
New Balence? i think he switches to adidas in the later ones (ADIDAS FTW! lol). about number 2... uhm.. no comment. lol. ahah
i still think 2nd stage was the best season.. maybe cause i like evos. haha
