Trade In Values...
Hey all...
Well it's time... I think I've out grown the tC. The two doors and lack of cargo space for four people or two people and a dog have grown tiring. I love the car, I do... but it's not practical for me anymore.
I'm looking into getting a leftover Mazda CX-7. I test drove one the other night and came away very happy. I agree with what others have said in regards to a little lag off the line, but it picks up quickly.
Anyways, just curious to those who have traded in their tC's what they may have gotten in return...
My KBB value is $9175 with 62.5k miles and a 5 speed. Retail value is like $13800 for it and the dealer is trying to lowball me hardcore at like $8000 on a leftover and willing to give me $10000 on a loaner vehicle they had.
So any input is much appreciated...
Danke..

If you can afford it, sell the car private party. Make sure you can afford 2 car notes for a few months though in case you are having trouble selling the tC.
I went to go to try to trade in the tC on a new FJ Cruiser for the wife, but the dealer would only offer us $12,000 for it. It's an 07 with 15k miles on it with a lot of extras. I paid almost double that a year ago lol.
I ended up talking the salesman up to making the tC a wash (still owe $15.5k on it) but then he just upped the price of the FJ. Ended up walking out after a couple hours of negotiating.

I have it listed on Craigslist right now... just to see if I'd get takers. I definitely cannot afford both cars right now. It'd be insane to fork over close to $800 a month on two cars.
We'll see what happens. The dealer called today but I couldn't answer. I'm going to call here in a bit and demand more for the tC.

Dealers use whats called Galves Wholesalers book or N.A.D.A...these two reference guides are real market values of vehicles being auctioned off at car auctions. In most cases, especially with Scions they usually do not account for extra accessory add ons. Dont forget also when you trade in a car that was financed for another vehicle that you are gonna finance or pay cash for you get a tax break. You are only going to pay tax on the difference of the trade in value subtracted from the price of the new car.
I bought a '94 Corolla in 1999 for like $9500 with 56k miles. The car lasted me personally for another 100k miles. As a kid that is in high school or heading to college this was affordable. Fast forward to now, a tC is definitely more than a Corolla and even with the higher miles in a shorter time, the car is guaranteed to last another 100k miles and I think even if they list it at $12.5k and sell it at $11k they are still making money.
Scion tC's are none for their reliability and ability to hold their value over time. Also, they're popular amongst young kids and not every kid can afford $18k to $20k for a new tC.
