I will say that I am tuned by my own knowledge right now and I havent had that type event occur! but you proly right JAX ....

Ace Jax, I have had the same thing since day one! i put a worm gear on the hose that connects to the valve cover from the intake manifold (the hose on the back with that little twist tie looking thing holding it on) so it doesnt pop off but i still have that irritating BANG every now and then... i havent had any issues with it yet. im not officially tuned yet either so that might be it.. but mine only had smoke like the first and second time i did it.. after that no smoke just POP!

 

hmm.. perhaps the smoke i'm getting is from the hose popping off?

btw, excuse my ignorance but what is a worm gear and where can i get it?

haha my bad! hose clamps! haha worm gear hose clamps same thing! just get one around the same size, slip it on there and thighten it down, but nottttt tooooo tight! hahaha the smoke is from popping if..

for me it solved the dying out issue when it pops off but the bang is still there.. quite irritating and embarrasing sometimes when people are like:

"WTF that dudes ____ is broken!"

 

yeah, it's bad enough that people at my university stop and stare when it goes BOOM, but i also have to get out and reattach the hose or else my car refuses to idle

 

put a hose clamp on it and you wont ever have to pop the hood and put it back on! haha as far a solution for people looking at you funny when it pops..

when you are leaving your school ensure you slam the throttle so you build a lot of vaccum then change gears.. then they'll be like... "damnnnnnn"

I just got my map in now, but it doesnt idle and the engine dies. are some maps always like that (using olahalo's map), or you let the ecu relearn and adjust first and then its good. Maybe i'll reset the ecu first since i've been running crappy without any tune and then here comes the map

 

I miss my car. Its getting ripped apart today so I'll know exactly what went wrong and what all will need to be fixed. I'm thinkin about sleeving the block and stronger rods and pistons for starters. Then I'll get my second head built when I have more money.

 

and what happened to your car again mang? i know something happened but lol i cant freakin remember!! how bout fully building it while you're at it- that if you're not in a hurry.

 

Well I am kinda in a hurry. I dont have a second car.

As for what happened........Well cylinder #1 is empty. No rod or piston at all. Just crankshaft down at the bottom. Thats the short sweet version of it.

 

try resetting the ECU and give it a little bit of driving for the ECU to "learn" a little. but i will say that olahalo's map runs much better on his car than mine... mine's still wayyyy too rich. but that's to be expected... all of our cars react differently to different maps

and Ace, do like Jax said, try resetting the ECU first and then running Ola's map. If that one don't work, have you tried the dezod map yet? just don't use Java's week map!
