Default U.S. Military(AF) flys over country w/ nukes.. WHAT?!?

There was a movie out a while back, some guy made a nuke fall out shelter under his pool and a nearby military base had an accident and when he saw the flash in the distance his friend and him ran into the shelter and ended up being trapped there, they left the communication antenna up and it melted..anyhow after 18months the dudes friend wanted out and this guy is like "if you leave you aint coming back" he left and everything was destroyed and dark.....End of the movie shows a dedication ceremony where the world disarms ALL nukes and had built a dome over the whole blast area as a memorial....like 25mile dome and this dude was trapped under it all in his safe shelter with out a clue!

I'm more concerened about the fact that they basically lost the nukes for a few hours. I'm not worried that they flew them over the country. Nukes are flown around more than you might think. They were never armed so there is no way they could have detonated. An unarmed nuclear warhead is little more than an expensive paperweight. But to lose track of them? Call me paranoid, but I would think you would want to keep better tabs on that type of thing.

Wow some of the idiots we have here at just love pointing fingers at the military for the tiniest screw ups as if they could have done better. Thank you Matt for having some "common sense" as they put it. If they would have read the whole article, they too would have known that even during a crash the warheads would not have detonated. At worst a little radioactive material would have been leaked but would be an easy clean up. The missiles were to be destroyed and they obliviously just missed the step of taking off the warheads. Its not really that big of a deal, no one was in any danger to be fired on by one as the we aren't going to attack our own d@mn country. Come on people, get a clue.

while i don't know how many times nukes are flown accross the country, the warheads are usually shipped separate from the missiles.

Very true, which is why there is a big investigation going on now. Somewhere, some one or a group of some ones, did not remove them. Nor did any of the other people notice them still on. A flaw, yes, but a big deal for the public, no, but for the military, yes, only b/c they were unaccounted for and a definite no-no. Heads will roll for this and that base is going to be f'ed in the a for years to come for this, I actually feel sorry for them b/c their lives are going to be hell now.
