well, since money doesn't PHYSICALLY exchange hands between the two people, it is nice and legal.

i mean, it is like having sex for monopoly money, so the police can't do squat can they?

well anything you have sex for is considered prostitution. i mean look at how they shut down file sharing and arrest you for that when all that is , is data transfer! besides she's got a face like a ripped softball!

yeah, but still, it would be hard for cops to prove that you had sex in exchange for virtual money in a massive multiplayer online game. i mean would there really be a paper trail for that?

i mean, maybe a credit card transaction for converting all dollars to gold pieces. but in most prostitution stings, there has to be a visible exchange for them to charge you with prostitution.

Oof, that's a baggy and a half right there... It never ceases to amaze me the lengths people will go in MMORPGs. And what scumbag actually pays for it?... Then again this IS WoW...

people would prefer to live a "rich" life in mmorpgs than a poor one in the real world.

Im pretty sure it was a character-to-character in-game exchange. Probably no real money was used. So there wouldn't even be a CC transaction stored anywhere. Aside from her word, and probably his word, this sort of thing cant be traced.

Btw, because alot of people have put real world value to virtual assets (money and items in MMORPGs) there is a debate if virtual assets should be tax deductible. I read in a magazine article a few months ago about a guy who claimed about $11,000 in real USD which were made entirely from items and gold sold in MMORPGs.

there are lots of stories about that. a piece of property in second life went for 23k more than a year ago, and in SW:G a guy made 140k in just 1 year using 6 accounts, and exploiting the game and selling credits.

Ya. Virtual Assets are fast developing real world value. Money is really a funny thing. Its only as valuable as the value people put on it. The money we use is really no more valuable than the virtual money you use in SecondLife or Guild Wars or World of Warcraft. Those games have their own real economies that work exactly like those of real countries. So its really no surprise to see things like this pop up.
