Ok, first, boy am I glad I don't live in Calif. Even if it is snowing like a bandit here in Minn. Second, as long as I have a clean record, and my vehicle passes emmission and saftey requirements, I would fight that sucker to the end. Legally, of course. Imagine if they went after muscle cars? Of four wheelers? Is it ok for law enforcement to modify THEIR vehicles , but not the public? This is indeed a sad and troubling thing to see....

basically they are using old laws to combat new problems.

those laws were ment to help clean the air(remember the smog issues in CA??)

TECHNICALLY, here in MN., if you change ride hieght, exhaust, or lighting they can get "stinky" also.... I high school ( many moons ago) I drove a 57' chev pickup. Lowered, stacks, lighting only through fogs and driving lights.... I repeatedly got " safety checked" until I liscensed it as a "custom vehicle"...

wasteing cops time is what i see... telling cops to take the time to stop vehicles that are not speeding, racing, running redlights etc. because they look "modified." the muscle car comment that nds_CARnivore made holds true. this is directed soley at imports... do they pull over hybusa's, after all there BUILT for raceing, what if i owned a ferrari or lamborghini, those cars have one purpose!

First .. My sympathy for those who live in Cali for having to put up with this ____ ..

Secondly, assuming they succeed to eliminate all modified cars from the streets of Cali ... , what's to stop us from racing stock cars that comply with all STATE REQUIREMENTS ?

The way I see it, if they stop us from moding our imports, with the money we save we can buy faster stock cars ..

thing is they don't pick on honduhs , they love 240sx's , supra's , scions , 300zx's , 510's , and a few others. basically if it's a popularly modded car they'll get you.

Glad I don't live in Cali. Geesh that is just messed up. When a cop points out you have "Adjustable timing", it's gone to far.

Cali., I think, is the strictest when it comes to car mods. Examples:

Any tint on your front windows (driver, passenger)

Cold air intake

Stereo that can be heard more than 50 (fifty) feet from your vehicle

I'm a broke a$$ so I have no mods.
yet

Well, this boils down to one thing: Street racing

All the idiots who decide to street race or race on freeways & such cause this problem. Similar to tax evasion prosecution on mobsters, law enforcement will look to remove the threat by any means.

That being said, if you decide to put illegal parts on your car, prepare to suffer the consequences. Very simple, find a part with a EO number and you'll be fine. I think even Greddy has turbo kits (for select makes) that are legal. Look at the TRD SC kit, 50-state legal.

The exhaust law, yeah, you may need to go to the ref for a db level test. If it fails, change it.

Gotta pay to play kids!

what kills me is that california is the MECCA for auto customization and upgrades , yet hardly any companies even go to the bother of submitting parts to the air resources board to get carb approved. screwing the HUGE market to use illegal parts or nothing.

That's right, the companies can get the stuff CARB certified, they just don't, even If you miss out on a few HP, If it's legal than I'd much prefer that. What's all the power good for if you can't use it.

And most exhaust that I've seen say right in the ad or whatever "90dB 50 state Legal" or whatever the dB level is. Or "Not legal in...(here and there)"

these guys look like they're from my era: when we all ran big motor cars, tires that stuck out too far, loud exhaust, etc.....
Ever try to "quietly" take off in a 4-500hp car?? Not easy to do.
We maybe didn't have to deal with carb or emissions, but the whole "street racer" car thing is off the wall in that video. Not every performance car, past or present, was built to street race....
Drivers always have and always will run on the road, but to tag every performance car as built for the street is insane.

i hafta agree its street racing.... i certainly have no problems with going to state ref if it clears me from other bunch of dump kids who wanna take their pride on the streets, i drive fast too, but i do make sure that i'm alone, when i do get into an accident, i die alone..... having 2+ cars racing on the freeway is dangerous, i dun see how it was until i nearly got into an accident....

AND..... San Diego and L A has the worse street racing problem in the state of CA, they hafta be strict, even tho some officer abuses their power, most of the officer jus wanna keep everyone safe

its like if thhey dun do nething and someone get killed or injured due to street racing, the police will get grilled, now.... they are mean, they are hated by import drivers.... how do i explain in this situation? tis like "damn if u do, damn if u dun"
