Default Who needs OnStar!? Use cell phones to unlock your car

Alright so I heard this yesterday morning on the radio and was very skeptical. I'm typically not one to fall for stupid internet/radio puns but this one seemed interesting to me. I swear it works too.

You have to have remote keyless entry in order for this to work.

Say you get to work and lock you keys in the car by mistake. Use your cell phone and make a call to someone else on their cell phone who has access to your spare key fob. Be standing within 1 foot or so of you car and have the person press unlock on your fob while holding it up next to the cell phone. Your doors will unlock.

I tried it yesterday while I was at work, I called my wife at home (4-5 counties away) and we did it. It worked. Crazy ish I tell you.

I'm sure someone can explain the frequencies and wave lengths involved with this to make it possible...but I don't know so don't ask

what would be great is if you could call your own phone with it before hand, and store the call and frequency in your voicemail to use on your car anytime you want it.
