Default wireless router question

ok i have a belkin wireless router with 4 ethernet ports. my question is, how many computers can connect to it using the wireless? cuz it seems like if one of my other comps is using the wireless connection, when my sister users her laptop, my connection stops shortly after. Just coincidence or is that how its suppose to be?

also, is there a such thing as a wireless repeater to extend the signal?

on my network we have the PC connected to the router and 2 laptops running on wireless at the same time with no problems. it could be your router. i havent really heard good things about belkin. and to extend the signal i know that they sell booster antennas but im not sure if they are only for linksys routers.

the 4port router can have 4 computers on all at once. it's NOT supposed to be cutting off. replace your router.

Check and see if any of your PC's have a static IP set. You may be getting conflicting IP's. You should be able to connect more computers than you need at the same time...

My WiFi unit and router are separate components, but my WiFi base is rated to handle, I believe, 15 nodes. Personally I've never had more than three nodes on the wireless and two on the router at one time.

Having a bunch of nodes hot on the WiFi shouldn't drop any of 'em, just make things a lot slower if they all try to move a lot of data at the same time.

Might it be a DHCP problem? It might depend on how you have your unit set up...

4 physical connections, yes(even more if you piggy backed switches/hubs), wireless it can have many more then that. The connection dropping could be due to what she is doing and if she is using the full bandwidth of your connection. It could also just be a low quality router and can't handle more then one wireless connection. I have a linksys wrt54g and have 2 physical connections and have had as much as 5 wireless connections with no issues. Either way it comes down to a problem with the router, either configuration wise or hardware wise.

You need to reflash your wifi router with the latest firmware. 99% of the time, your problems will automagically disappear.
