Default Wisdom Tooth

Ok, my wisdom tooth on the left side is coming in and it hurts like a ****. I can't see the dentist til Monday (hopefully) and i can only bite down like 1/2 way cause my gum is swollen. I've tried to use OraGel and that doesnt really help, and Anbesal (sp?) didnt really help either. I can't really eat anything cause I can't bite down, and I can't sleep at night cause it hurts to much.

Is there anything I can do for now til I can see the dentist?

You should've had this treated a while ago, before it got this bad. I suspect you probably had more minor pain in the past. Mine started with a dull ache in my jaw and got progressively worse after days and weeks. I got an x-ray at the first sign of pain and had all 4 wisdom teeth removed a couple of weeks later. Get those f*ckers out asap.

Some people say a halls mentholyptus helps, but aspirin is what worked for me. Just get it removed asap. You don't want to have to get 2 full grown ones removed like I'm fixing to do

I gotta get mine out too. My jaw xray is gnarly.
I've found that Aleve and orajel are your best friends.

Or, try to score some Vicodin, that's the best.

Do not illegally obtain narcotics for this. This is how people get addicted.

You'll be given something for the pain, until your surgery with the orthodontist is scheduled.

Stick with the NSAIDS. Ibuprofen 600mgs x3 /day would be a max suggestion, noting that the max dose on the bottle is 1200mgs/day. The therapeutic window for ibuprofen is very large, so you'll be fine. I've personally had to do much more ( 800mg x 3 /day ) ... but after day 4 or 5 I couldn't hold anything down, and got the prescription changed.

Take with food. This is very important. This high of a dose will start to chew up your stomach lining over time, so if you start feeling like you've got bad stomach acid or cough anything up, then stop immediately.

---

You can use something topical in addition. Oragel's good, as is anything else that's a benzocaine derivative. Just be sure not to swallow the benzocaine, that'll lead to stomach upset.

---

Now my non-medical advice... swish some vodka for as long as you can stand it... or, a few rounds of an ALCOHOL-based mouthwash. Be sure to spit. The booze will burn like hell at first, then you won't feel much.

If they hurt you that bad, you'll probably schedule a surgery to get them removed.

If that's the case, then I can explain to you what'll happen then. I've been on both sides of that one.

Take a thick nail.

Rest it right against the affected tooth.

Now have a friend take a ball peen hammer.

Yeah! How's your tooth feeling now? :D
