I think we should have a group meet for photographers just to practice with cameras hah.

I like this shot, aside from the aforementioned focus, I think this photo is hilarious. It's those type of photos that seem to have a lot of story hah.

Yep, Tina.

XTi, yesterday I used my 55-250.
I use manual.
my guess is that you were shooting at the end 250mm and the problem is that the f stop narrows too much. possibly lowering the shutter speed may help. I wouldn't recommend increasing the ISO past what you were using because there seems to be grain that's becoming present in the zoo photos. Since the lens will automatically narrow aperture as you zoom, how about trying shots around 200mm and wider smaller f-stop number aka wider aperture. that would help too.

im not familiar with the xti, but it should have a meter that looks like this "IIIIIIIIII"
that be a helpful tool in telling you whether your shot will come out under or overexposed.

what helped me a lot was I was forced to shoot in poor lighting environments without flash. After viewing them on the computer, you learn the limitations of the camera and figure out tricks on how to get the most out of the equipment you're using.

I really like the shy gazelle pic, fantastic photo btw [/i]
Thanks for all your input. I was definitely zoomed in almost all the way. I'm excited to take my class, too. I start in about 3 weeks so hopefully in a month or so I'll see lots of improvement.

I try to shoot only in 100 ISO cuz I know the higher the ISO, the grainier the picture. I never use flash, & most of the pics were taken in low lighting & I didn't have a tripod which I'm assuming is one of the reasons why the pics aren't as crisp as I'd like them to be.

The shy gazelle was definitely one of my favs!
what was the shutter speed on the shots.. i learned that changing the speed can lead to brighter shots as well.. i was shoot at like 1/500th all the time for some reason.. slowed it down to 1/125 - 1/80 came out lots better..
To be honest, I always changed it. I know the lower the brighter.
photo lesson 101

thats because more amount of time light has to enter.

shots of the shoes are nice.. but i dont really like the color.. and the pier shot looks out of focus too.. a little to blurry..

look at the right side of the pier...it's should probably be a bit sharper, but still shows a good range of depth of field

the right side is in focus, but with a longer shutter and shooting, say, f16...you'd get a far larger range of DOF...

youre right i see it.. but like you said.. on shots like that isnt it better to have a high f/stop to get everything into focus.. he unless he was purposely high lighting the rail in that shot..

6k+ for the lens alone...

pffffttttt

$6,000 is pocket change compared to this lens.

That why on the ones I did, I added a warming filter.

yeah ur's looked a lot better. But it was nice of Nastos to try editing it for her.

Tina, if u can (if u already haven't), read the manual that came with the camera. It actually explains a LOT and actually gives u a crash course in ALL the basics. Like how to read the meter and all that. I still gotta learn how and why to do exposure compensation myself.

I like ur shot of the shy gazelle tho. and the gazelle head that was centered with his ears out.

Well it's leaning against my HDD, so I didn't really want that in the shot, that's why I cropped it the way I did. And I suck at fine focus because my eyesight blows lol.

Yeah, but the location of my monitor limits where I can take the photo from...and with the 50mm you need to be about a foot away...and that's just not gonna happen in my room lol.
