Default JVC Everio

So i know nothing about cameras. I recently got a JVC Everio for my birthday and i did some filming and some photos. When i uploaded the photos onto my computer the quality was how do u say $h!t. And the videos come out as .MOD and i cant play them. I downloaded a converter but now the videos are really crappy too they def dont look as good as they do on the camera. Is there a way of fixing this. I have tried changing some of the different things in there like the video quality was fine but i changed it to normal and the videos are still junk is there a way to change it so when i take videos they arnt .MOD but WMV or wutever.

ill never understand why all camera makers don't just make their videos to be .avi format. i guess that would just be too easy.

i have the everio and i love it... i know its not HD but, i love mine...

to convert MOD to AVI, you need to install the software that came with the camcorder... it should have a software where you have to import all the vids you took, and export it on how you want it exported.... either AVI, MP4, or something else.
