Default Toyota FT-86 = Scion FT-S?

So Autoblog.com is reporting that the Toyota FT-86 will laso be bedge as the Scion FT-S. What is going to differentiate the models, since they'll both be sitting under one roof at the dealerships? My guess - content.

Does Subaru have a 2.5 boxer? Imprezza used to have one, no? The 2.5RS, I think.

It will have one name, not both. There will not be a Toyota version if it is to be a Scion in North America.

In the end, who cares what name it has so long as its cool and optioned well.

that would be a huge a$$ FAIL if they come out with that.............. the current 2.5 puts out more power than that. if they slap a turbo on it and make it 240hp then its ok.....

The third generation Subbie H4 engines were released with 2 displacements: 2.0 and 2.5. We will either see a 2.0 Turbo or 2.5 NA (to get that ~200 hp range they are aiming for) if they use the Subbie engine. But the Toyota/Scion version will have Yamaha tuned heads (not sure how much experience Yamaha has with flat engines), but that'll impact the power quite a bit. If they are successful, then we may see the 2.0L NA engine in the Toyota/Scion model.

We'll have more info at the world-version unveiling at the Geneva Auto Show in March (Badged a Toyota). The Scion release version will likely be introduced in April at the New York Auto Show... but there's tons of speculation out there. It's best to just wait and see... but it's definitely fun to speculate.

Ryan (Editor at Club Lexus, Main guy @ Kaizen Factor) received a sneak peak photo for the Geneva unveiling. Look him up (Screen name: Flipside909). He gets more insider info direct from corporate than anyone else outside of the actual manufacturing/associates.

i would rather have a 200-220hp 2.0T than a 175hp 2.5N/A

yamaha will work on the motor? Well.. we will see it. I hope they dont mess it up. I wonder if they want to beef up the 2.5 n/a to 200hp. i want turbo

Yamaha fine tunes all of Toyota's performance engines (2JZ, 2ZZ, 3S, even the LFA's V10). No worries there... but I feel it'll likely be a 2.0 NA... I think the turbo option will put the pricing way out there. We'll see soon enough.

2jz wasnt designed by yamaha... 1jz, yes... then toyota copied a few things to save money on the 2jz engines.
LFA v10: only fine tuned the "engine noise", exhaust, i think they didnt really touched the engine itself.
