5/17: Phoenix Area Scion Trail Run
I've been meaning to get out and do the Apache Trail for a while and now I'm running out of time before it gets too hot. I'm planning to have some driving fun while stopping to take some cool pics of my car and the scenery. I'm quite content to do it by myself, but thought I'd throw it out there for anyone else who might want to come. The drive is great (so long as there isn't too much traffic, which is why I'm doing it on a Thursday) and the view is incredible.
If anyone is interested in coming along, I'm planning to do it mid-morning, before it gets too hot. Depending on who wants to go and where y'all live, I'll set up a meeting place so we can roll out together.
What: Drive the Apache Trail East of Phoenix
When: Thursday, 5/17
Who: Me! And maybe you!
Let me know if you want to go and generally where you live so I can set up a good meeting place.

Hmmm, Sounds interesting. Wish I had sway bars on already to make this drive a lil more interesting. I'm down if it's not too far. I live by the Cardinal stadium. How early are we talking?
So if it's not like driving to Tucson then I'm down.

Okay just looked at the map. That's like faaaaar East. Doesn't seem too bad. I can diggit. How far into the Apache Trail are you thinking of going? Maybe you and I can meet up in Avondale like 99th ave and McDowell. I don't know who else would be interested but is this only a Scion thing?

Yes, it's a ways out there. My reason for going out there is it's a great driving road. Unfortunately, with all the mountains in the area, it's the ONLY good driving road I've found nearby. If you know of a closer one, pleeeeeaaaaassssseeeee let me know!
And I'm thinking of heading that way after I drop my daughter off at school, about 8:30 or 9am.
It's not a Scion thing. I'm going for a cruise and threw out the invite, so whoever wants to come can. I think Aztcrs807 is going too.

Oh I'm a noob in AZ. I may have been visiting here since the way early 80's before all these freeways existed (101,202, 303, 51, etc). But I've only lived here since 2004. So unfortunately I'm unaware of any but I can ask people who go camping a lot. It looks like a deep drive but not as bad as Tucson. I'll see what I can find and will get back to you. Time is perfect because I have to drop off my son to school as well. Daddy duty comes first. LOL
Well, you've got me beat. I've only been here since last September! And I've been actively looking for good driving roads and they all seem to be on the East side of town. Lots of good hiking on this side, but not so much driving.
I asked my coworker who camps a lot and said that the Apache trail is our best bet and that the paved road ends at the lake. So it's perfect. My coworker is gonna go. He's not sure if he'l drive his Subaru Legacy GT or just ride with me. Anyone else jumping on this?
It's a really nice drive and there are a lot of places to take pictures. Another guy on here, Aztcrs7.0709 (I don't remember his login) is also going to go, and maybe a friend from work will go with his Mustang GT. That's all I've heard from so far.
Ha! Couldn't find the thread until I realized it was stickied!
Not sure why, but I'll take it.
Anyway, let's meet up at Starbucks at 99th & McDowell at 9am tomorrow. We'll head out from there and meet up with my friend from the Tempe area when we get closer.

Are you going all the way to Roosevelt? I am in, but will probably turn around after Tortilla Flats (some of us have to work...*cough*). Where can we meet on the East side? Somewhere off the 60 & Idaho rd, maybe?...//TJ
It ended up being just Aaron and me, but it was a blast. Scenery was great. Roads were great. Very little traffic and those who were on the roads pulled over so we could pass. We also got to take some pretty cool pictures. Thanks, Aaron, for bringing the good camera!

Man I missed out. Wasn't trying to be a flake MightyP. I was looking forward to the drive and meeting more Scion/car folks more than the actual picture taking. I just didn't know if we were going to be back in time for me to pick up my son. Was it all dirt?
And no worries. I'm sure we'll have other stuff where we can meet up.
Toeveryhour wants to do a cruise to South Mountain sometime. I invited her to go to your cruise but said she was busy. There's always the Kyoei meets. I'm gonna try to go to that more often.
