Exclamation 5th Annual NASA AZ Night Event 4/10/2010

For the last 4 years, the NASA Arizona team has worked hard to put together one major event of the year that stands out over the rest. On April 10th, 2010 at Firebird Raceway in Chandler, AZ, we will once again be putting on the largest and most diverse motorsports event in Arizona’s history. Here’s a rundown of activities that will start during the day, and go well into the late night:

HPDE: The backbone of NASA – the High Performance Driving Event (HPDE) program gives the everyday banker, grocery store manager, salesman or housewife the opportunity to drive their cars on a real race track with detailed instruction and training from certified professional instructors.

Club Racing: Three times throughout the night, the NASA club racing race cars will take the green flag and race wheel to wheel around Firebird Raceway, using rules similar to that of NASCAR, while using street based cars that have been upgraded for more speed and more safety.

Drifting: The Trial By Fire Drift program is back and will be holding drifting practice and competition sessions on the Firebird Raceway skid pad, just adjacent to the race track. With Hollywood movies such as Fast and Furious, Tokyo Drift modeling themselves after drifting, this style of driving continues to grow in popularity. Drivers will get the opportunity to slide cars around between a coned course, without having to worry about getting hassled by "the man".

Modified Tuner Shootout: Modified Magazine, one of the largest circulating import car oriented magazine, will be holding its 4th annual Tuner Shootout event, right here in Arizona! Up to fifteen of the best vehicle builders, shops and cars from around the nation will arrive at Firebird Raceway to go heads up in battles on the autocross, drag strip, road course and engine dyno testing machine. Just a few months later, the results, and more importantly, the winner, will be announced along with full details and pictures in Modified Magazine. Being there could get you a cameo in the magazine!

HyperDrive: Interested in getting your car on a race track, but are still worried about making the investment in the HPDE program? No problem – HyperDrive is your answer! For $40, anyone can show up, sign up, put on a free loaner helmet and drive around the race track at Firebird Raceway for 20-minutes to get the feet wet and see what track driving is all about. While onsite registration will be available, it is highly encouraged to pre-register as spots are expected to sell out fast. https://www.nasaproracing.com/event/1090

Bounce House & Kid Area: Perhaps the biggest obstacle for young families is “what to do with the kids”, while the parents are checking out the racing! NASA will be setting up a Bouncy House play area for children from 3pm – 8:30pm to give children a place to play, have fun, burn off some of that energy and help make a family trip to the racetrack just little easier!

DJ & Go Go Dance Contest: When the lights dim and the sun goes down, the stage will be cleared for the annual Go Go Dance Contest with several of the valley’s greatest DJ's spinning music in the background. The contest will be awarding $300 in prize money so the action is guaranteed to be hot!

While spectator numbers were not recorded in the first two years of the event, in 2008 NASA saw nearly 2,000 people in attendance at this event. In 2009, that number grew to almost 3,000 despite horrible weather conditions. This year NASA expects nearly 5,000 people in attendance, both from spectators and participants, making it the biggest amateur road-racing oriented motorsports event ever in Arizona. If you have considered the idea of getting involved in motorsports, or are just interested in seeing what it is all about, chances are there will be an event for you on April, 10th 2010. General Admission is $10 or bring a canned food item or an official flyer that can be picked up at most local performance shops and get 5 dollars off. Visit www.NASAAZ.com for more details.
