Arizona Fall Rally 06 planning. Input required UPDATED!
Ok! The trip has been revised! The 2006 Rally Az is now much shorter, more relaxed and will be tons of fun! The new layout is a simple 2 1/2 day event. Details are to follow.
Day 1. Early AM meet at Kiwanis park in Tempe Az. From here we will all leave out driving up the 87 freeway through the mountains. We will have a lunch stop in Payson and time for gas up. The event for the day will be a visit / hike at the Tonto National Bridge which is an amazing place to visit. "link below" We will then tavel through the mountains, through Camp Verde and on our way to Sedona were we will stay the night. A dinner will be planned, Movie chosen as a get together.

Day 2. Wake up and roll to a breakfast spot which is to be determined. We will then take a drive up oak creek canyon which is a beautiful place to drive. We will stop off for a mid morning ice cream munchie at a Dairy Queen which is up far in oak creek canyon. We will then head back down oak creek canyon, through Sedona, through Cottonwood and up into Jerome which is an old semi ghost town. We have the option of taking a really cool tour of what mines were like back in the late 1800's to early 1900's. Or we can take a tour of the Museum in Jerome and learn about it's history. After this it will be a stay in the old town of Jerome in one of the many old hotels from the turn of the century. Very cool stuff.

Day 3. Up and at it again! We will get a bite to eat and start the journey home driving throuh Prescott, down through Yarnell and Congress and call it a trip. Depending on what time we leave Jerome we should be back home and ready to rest by early to mid afternoon.
Hope these revisions work out for you guys! Will post a map up soon!
This is planned for Columbus day weekend 2006! October 7th, 8th and 9th! This should work out best for most people as it is a holiday weekend. Trip will start Saturday the 7th.

Right on man. I hope this goes through as I want to plan one every year. Next year I am thinking Mexico, another place I frequent every year for a nice beach trip.
I'm liking late October. Will be very nice in the north country.
I'm also thinking a shorter trip. Don't know about one day but don't know about five days either. Maybe make it to Payson the first night, Prescott the second night... back home on the third night? I dunno.

yes I agree, not soo long of a trip. I've lived in AZ for 24 years and using up a bunch of vacation time to drive around this state instead of going outside the state and doing something different. I think if we can plan just a weekend trip like sat & sun that could work ok.
