Default The Dunkmeister...

Since Mark already started to let the cat out of the bag....
Some of you may know that I am a HUGE ASU football fan. Well it just so happens that Mark is a U of A (puke) fan. So in the spirit of yesterday's home opener for the Sun Devils I might have shot my mouth off a little bit ( I know, hard to imagine). Anyway, it goes like this, if ASU has 400 total yards offense (or more) against the U of A on Nov 25th then Mark will sit in a dunk tank for an hour while we all take shots at him. And of course if ASU has 399 total offensive yardage (or less) then I will be in the dunk tank for an hour. The date of the game would make this a December meet (cold). You gotta love college football. GO SUN DEVILS!

I took a look at ASU's season last year. They averaged 484 yards of total offense over their 12 game season.

560 yards against LSU, a team that ended the season with the #3 defense in total yards for the season. Of course, early on, they were playing their opening day game away from home because of Katrina. I think they even moved the game from LSU to ASU because of the storm? Anyway... we caught them at the best possible time and put some numbers up.

After that ASU still put some numbers up. Their two worst performances were against Oregon (330 Yards) and Arizona (369 Yards). They played against defenses ranked 94, 105, 106, 112, 113, and 117 (out of 117) in 6 of their 12 game schedule.

Arizona's defense finished 86th in the country but was coming on toward the end of the season. They are expected to be much better this year and some analysts are predicting the return of "Desert Swarm":

The line is bigger and better now that end Marcus Smith is back after missing almost all of last year, and there's more depth everywhere than the program has had in years. If that wasn't enough, the special teams should be among the best in the nation.
I think they have a shot at slowing down the paper dragon that is the ASU offense. ASU's offensive output is trending downward the last three years.

Mark, you're staying dry. ASU could only put up 414 total yards against NAU, which had the worst defense in the Big Sky last year and they looked bad doing it.

Good luck Bryan, I hop you have good health insurance for your pneumonia treatment.

First of all, Mark you want to talk about Uof A returning a number of players this year?
ASU (the #2 ranked offense in the country) only lost one receiver, one line men, and Sam Keller. Rudy Carpeneter has as much if not more talent than Keller as the replacement. And ASU has a lot more depth at receivers and in the backfield than last year.

Second, last nights game was no gague as to this offense will perform this year. Jamal Lewis didn't play. Keegan Herring only played the first drive in the first half. ASU ran a very basic offense knowing every team in the country was gonna be peeking at the offense to see what they had. Koeter wasn't going to show all his cards against NAU.

And don't even get me started about the "Desert Swarm". You were #86 in the country last year and you wanna nick name your defense. Please...

The desert swarm nickname came from 10 years (or more, I'm getting old) and 3 or 4 coaches ago.

My point is ASU was ranked #114th in defense last year and I'm not about to talk about the "Mustard Defense"

And BJ, Rudy Carpenter was freshman last year when he stepped up for Keller and ran the offense. I don't care how he drives. I only care how he can run and throw a football.

Where is your pride BJ? You are a Sun Devil...or are you just fair weather?

Not to mention that Carpenter put up almost identical numbers to Keller when he came in for him. Yes it sucks that Koeter got rid of a Senior for a freshman, which might hurt our recruting, but if any kid is going to replace Keller it is Cunningham. The way last night went, it couold be a good season.

OH dont get me wrong...i got all the pride in the world..

but i also dont sit and watch my team... make stupid stupid STUPID mistakes.... and pretend like they didnt happen..

and i wasnt taking about carpenter i was taling about SECOND string this year.... ... Its not a matter of beating UofA they suck ___...

its a matter of doing well in the REAL PAC-10 and that game was NOT a good indication for the team... im not a front runner... and i will be at every game... i just hope last night was a "starting game jitters" deal... or else... PAC-10 is gonna rape us.

I know carpenter doesnt suck... the TEAM chose him as the QB... but i also didnt see his abilites come out in last nights game...

i think last night was a showing about how much MR. COACH.. wasnt using his ablity the right ways

the team ran the same 4-5 plays ALL game....

I think if coach uses our teams skills better we will be good this year... but last night... he shoulda been running to the OUTSIDE... and he was running up the middle the first whole half...and forcing carpenter to make bad throws with that werid ___ short pass

anybody else like that unplaned reverse... where carpenter BLOCKED! and burgess ran it in for a TD... too sweet

GO DEVILS!!!

Scion meet to UofA... for the devils game... whos with me

oh and Mark... we may not get 400 yards... but ur still gonna lose.. desert swam... meet a CAN O' RAID...

BJ, that's exactly what I'm saying. There is a reason they ran the same plays. We'll probably run a similar offense against Nevada. Mark my word, when we start Pac-10 play this offense will be potent. They have a ton of speed. They're were some "first game jitters". All and all I don't think it was a bad first game. I'm more concerned about giving NAU two touchdowns. I think we're pretty strong at the corners for the first time in a while. That "no huddle" offense that NAU was running threw us off pretty bad. Don't be surprised if we see that a few more times this year. Opposing teams will kill us if we don't fix that deal. I'm concerned about the secondary.

BTW, Nice pic Scott.
