Hey folks, it's that time once again.

The JDRF walk to cure diabetes will be held Nov. 1 at Tempe Town Lake.

I'm sure most of you know that my daughter, Meghan, has type I diabetes. She was diagnosed 3 years ago. We actually recognized the symptoms while at a Scion meet in Mesa. She wears an insulin pump 24/7 that is connected to an infusion site with tubing. Every carb she eats has to be counted and entered into the pump so that it can give her the correct amount of insulin. It also gives her a very small amount of insulin constantly to compensate for the sugar released by her body throughout the day. She checks her blood glucose by pricking her finger 8-10 times a day. Another girl in her grade at school was diagnosed about 1.5 years ago. I just found out yesterday that the granddaughter of a friend of a co-worker was diagnosed just last week. Type I diabetes is an immune disorder, and not related in any way to type II, which is what you hear the most about and affects mostly older and overweight people. JDRF was founded 1970 in by a group of parents of children with Type I diabetes. Last year they awarded $137 million to diabetes research and 85% of the money they raise supports research and diabetes education.
