Default My Accident Last Night...w/ Pics

I got hit last night on Bell/Reems around 1AM at the Chevron Gas Station

A girl in a white lancer was right on my @$$ and all my friends were in front of me
I start to pull into the gas station at an angle because the enterance/exit was a
pretty steep unlevel ramp and I did not want to scrape/bottom out.

So I slow down to about 5MPH, turn on my turn signal, go somewhat to my left to come at an angle to the enterance, and she was going to the gas station as well, but she under cut me and clipped the back end of my car and my rim. She hit me at approx. 30MPH. On top of that her friend hit the back of her bumper with her caddy, and when the cop asked if she (the lancer) had any passengers she said the girl who was driving the caddy was a passneger!!
My tC only has a lot of scrapes on the bumper/quarter panel, the bumper is somewhat smuged in, theres a slight wrinkle in the paint on the quarter panel and minor
scratches on the rim. The lancer is complete damaged. Her headlamp assembly and corner of her bumper was completely smashed in from my rim.

Needless to say the cop came and was a car guy, pretty cool cop from Surprise.
She got sited for improper use of a vehicle and following too closely. I still have to go
to court because she is going to fight it saying I was at fault and I did an improper turn.

Soooo uhhh anyone that does paint. I need a good hook up!

Sorry if the pics may not work, you'll have to copy the URL more than likely.
If they work, sorry they are huge

Signal before slowing down. This announced your intent. I usually signal even before taking my foot off the gas. Plus, it confuses the **** out of people. Most don't know what a ***ing turn signal is. ;)

Question though, how do you go in at more of an angle by swinging out first? Or was this an entrance on the left?

The enterance was on the right (if driving south on Reems) and it was a left enterance into the gas station. So I am making a RIGHT turn. I remained in the right lane (which is the turning lane) when doing my turn. When I say swinging out to the left, I dont mean completely out of the right lane, I was merely preping my car to go in at an angle at a slow speed. I was almost fully (more half way in) into the enterance of the gas station when she under cut me.

Maybe I signaled too late, but I applied my brakes about 10 yards before making my turn.....seriously common sense here, when you see someone apply their brakes ease back

Brakes > Slowed Down > Signal > Turn > Collision

Signal before you slow down and turn.

Similar thing happened to me turning into my complex. Except the car that hit me just kept driving and didn't stop.

Now I'm extra paranoid about turning in somewhere with someone coming up behind me because most people don't understand how slow some of us have to go so we don't scrape. I'm like xbum and have my turn signal on well before the turn in an attempt to get people to notice.

To get a driver's license in my state, you must pass the written test. The state puts out a "Driver's Guide," a 108 page pamphlet that covers most of the obvious things you need to know to drive legally. One of the things in the pamphlet is how far before a change of direction you should signal. Here's the 'word'...
•Get into the habit of signaling every time you change
direction. Signal even when you do not see anyone
else around. It is easy to miss someone who needs to
know what you are doing.
•Signal at least 100 feet before you make your move.
(Here's the guide, in PDF - it's really a decent guide!)
http://www.dol.wa.gov/ds/Guide2005.pdf

Hope your car gets fixed up without any problems.

Well, I didnt expect to get a crash course lesson in driving when I posted this but thanks everyone for giving information on how to properly drive?? Even though I know some of you tend to forget once and a while to use your signal.

As for the damage yeah I can get it fixed, its nothing TOO severe. I'm auctally quite surprised how well the tC withstood the impact. Though she mainly hit my rim which got me sideways but Im impressed by the facia. More than likely I'll have to stop in at my favorite dealership and order a new bumper and see if maybe I can find a shop as well.

As for me, yeah im ok, was pretty shoke up at first when it happened, never really
experienced an accident

As for the pics, Right click then click properties then copy the URL and paste it
on your ADDY Bar.

Glad to hear you're ok. 2 out of the 3 accidents I have been in were rear-impact collisions. Sometimes people are idiots. Not only do YOU have to drive and look out for yourself, but YOU also have to look out for the dopes who aren't paying attention while they drive! Be careful: you might end up with severe neck, shoulder, and back pain. (Whiplash.) I thought everythng was cool a couple of days later after the wrecks. On the 3rd day, I could barely move my neck. Just be sure to get it looked at. It may seem minor now, but can turn into something major later in life!

Another sign that I should not get my car lowered. I can't stand tailgaters for that reason. They don't have time to react even if they are paying attention to the road, maybe the B** learned her lesson about that as her car is trashed and yours is just scratched up.

Arizona law requires that you keep enough space between you and cars in front of you on the
road to allow time for a safe stop in case of an emergency, such as someone slamming on
his brakes
(A.R.S. §28-701)

A.
A person shall not drive a vehicle on a highway at a speed greater than is reasonable
and prudent under the circumstances, conditions and actual and potential hazards then existing.
A person shall control the speed of a vehicle as necessary to avoid colliding with any object, person
vehicle or other conveyance on, entering or adjacent to the highway in compliance with lega
requirements and the duty of all persons to exercise reasonable care for the protection of others.
