Default My box got rear-ended... in the carwash! >:O

I was going through the carwash this afternoon, you know the 4.00 one at Indian School and 75th St in Scottsdale? It's an automatic - one of those ones that pulls your car through in neutral. Everything was going fine until I got to the part where it rinses off the car, then the whole wash shut down like the power went out.

About 3 seconds later... BAM! Fearing more damage, I drove straight out of the wash, and some old guy in a Buick followed me. The bumper is fine, but he pushed in a big crescent-shaped area right under the license plate. You can see the latch mechanism bolts poking through the metal.

I put in a claim with my insurance, and I want them to go after him, because it was clearly his fault.

Is this repairable or am I getting a new hatch?

I would contact the car wash owner and explain the situation. I hope you got the contact info of the person that hit you.

yeah that sucks.
some kid rear ended me couple years ago. the area around the latch mechanism was dented in. the body shop couldn't repair it though - something about the walls in that area were so close to each other, so i ended up with a new hatch. ever since then, the rear hatch doesn't shut properly, but at least i got my rear wiper shaved in the process.

I take it the car wash power glitch made the old guy think he could pull in, and didn't see your car was still there?

I was already most of the way through the car wash; he was behind me in the middle. The insurance place has my car and all of the information for the other driver. I'm pushing to have his insurance pay for it.

UPDATE!

I got my toaster back about a week after I posted this. My insurance and the other guy's insurance talked and my company is going after the car wash. I had to front the money for the repairs and the car rental, and right now the subrogration unit is going after the car wash's insurance.

If they have problems, I get to have the pleasure of taking the car wash to small claims court.

As long as I'm there, can I claim punitive damages on the grounds that my car has been permanently devalued because it's no longer in 100% factory condition? Would my lender write down the loan for the same reason?

Thx

Are you serious?
Take a step back and think about what you posted.

Because your vehicle was involved in an accident, the vehicle was fixed to (I hope) OEM standards, you want your finance company who wrote a check to the dealership to reduce the amount of money you owe on your vehicle?

Your lender doesn't care if the thing is wrecked or not as long as it's back to OEM appearance and quality.

I don't think your 1 out of 20,691 Thunder Cloud Metallics is sooooooo rare that a fender bender will devalue it soooooo much it might loose $50 on the value of the vehicle.

But it's *not* back to OEM standards. The hatch still won't close 100% if I don't push it closed from a minimum raised distance. If I just casually let it close (like before the accident) it won't latch fully. The hatch still has a tiny bit of give. :\

I'm asking because I know there's all sorts of accounting tricks out there to manipulate numbers. You're witnessing the birth of a Republican

Who did the work? Take it back.

Justin ripped apart the lower pan from the mounting point on the rear of the xb. Broke all the welds and you could see the ground from the inside of his xb and you could stick a good 3 fingers behind the hatch. Jimmy fixed it and closes like new.

So I'd be a bit peeved if it didn't close like it supposed to.

I'll keep an eye on it. The work has a lifetime guarantee through Progressive. If I'm not happy I'll take it back for latch adjustment.

When I had tailgate repaired and repainted, they put a new xB badge on and it's not placed properly. How much is the new badge? [nm found it, 18.99] Since the body shop basically did a ____-poor job, does anybody have a new-in-package badge I can buy real cheap, or should I make insurance buy me another one so I can do it correctly to OEM specs?
