i lost my key i am using a cheap spar not even a scion key where can i get a scion key for cheap

buy a blank off ebay and then go have it keyed and programmed.

how are you using a cheap spare key that isn't even a scion key? unless you have a tc spec, your car won't start because of the engine immobilizer if you weren't using a programmed key.

you mean the valet key don't you? the one without keyless entry.

the key is black and it says ingenuity on it no buttons nothing so i want a scion key again

yeah, but what i am asking is, how does a generic key start your car?

the tc has an engine immobilizer in it so that you can't just start it with any key cut to fit, it needs the transponder chip that is in the OEM keys to start it.

so if you're starting it with a generic key, either your immobilizer isn't working, or your original key is hidden somewhere in your car.

hmm thanks for that ill look around my car for a car but maybe this key has a chip in it i have a better spare but it doesnt have the chip i can unlock doors and stuff but no turning on
