Default One second away from crashing the tC.

I was on the way home on the 101 north going through the Scottsdale photo camera area. Cruising at just under 70 I see some activity in the south bound lane. Cars are moving around and then I see a huge cloud of dust. I see the cars in front of me swerving to the right and all kinds of brake lights. I figure someone spun out to a stop, I see it all the time.

All of a sudden a see a car bouncing off the median spinning and it breaks free of the retention cables flying directly into north bound traffic, Yikes!!! The guy in front of me only has enough time to hit his brakes before he t-bones a L-Town car. I hit the brakes as I had plenty of room and I have a BBK so stopping is not an issue, it is was the guy behind who stopped safely.

I parked the tC were it stopped, hopped out to attend to the guy in the Town car, he was awake, I asked his name he knew it. I asked him not to move and he agreed. I then looked for the other guy and he was out walking around. Myself and a city worker got a blanket and had him sit down. An off duty EMT showed up and checked him and asked me to keep him sitting while he attended to the guy in the Town car.

After all was done these two guys walked away from the crash. The Town car guy had some minor scratches from the glass. The other guy had lots of air bag burns and a cut on his arm. I think someone was watching over these two.

BTW: I was the car behind, if I was only going about one second faster that could have been me.

dayum...and people wonder why i say brakes and tires are important upgrades. really glad your tc wasn't a casualty, it is beautiful. no passengers in the town car? that is lucky, looks like they would've taken quite a beating!

Whew! That Town Car got pounded. I'm amazed at how well the smaller car came through, considering the damage to the Lincoln.

You were lucky to be paying attention, to have enough space in front and behind, and decent brakes.

Glad there were no serious injuries.

The tC is a daily driver up until about 4 months ago, it has been sitting in the garage and makes it out to the shows. I have been driving the Tacoma. Now that gas is $3 dollars a gallon, the tC is out of the garge and back on the road. The tC turbo charged gets about 8 more miles to the gallon than the Tacoma. The Tacoma only makes weekend adventures.

Yeah the T-car was hammered, the guy walked away with his life. I did not check the other car, I think it was a Honda. Luckily he hit him square on and the air bags and the cars crumple zones worked. The guy only had brake skids for a bout 20 feet and at just under 70 miles per hour when we stared braking. He pounded the t-car.

Never tail gate!! You always drive with three escape routes, to your left, right and the rear. You never allow yourself to be boxed in. Especially in this state.

Glad you weren't involved in that mess Kelly. Was the towncar travelling south bound?
I've never been a fan of the so called safety cables we have here in Az. If he was going south bound
and we had concrete medians the car would have never crossed over into the
opposite lanes of traffic.

glad you're OK Kelly.

Since I got rear-ended I'm always very careful to leave extra stopping distance in front of me. In my accident I was able to stop, but the guy behind me wasn't. I think that little extra cushion in front of me gives the guy behind me more time to react.

wow... just wow.. I own a 99 grand marquis (I call it the grand mark) and its the same as a towncar, crown vic, or bonneville (full size, uni-body) and I cant believe the impact that thing took.... IF that would of been a CRX or a miata, that person would of just called it a day... I still cant believe how demolished it looks, how fast would you estimate the "other" car was traveling at point of impact? 50 MPH?

Hmmmmmmm... I just noticed the Lincoln brought the divider cable with it into the oncoming lanes...

We have some of those type dividers up here in Washington state, too, and more often than not cars and trucks go right through them.
