Default questions about UNLV aka UNIVERSITY OF NEVADA LAS VEGAS.

not sure if this is part of LAS VEGAS section but ill just put it here..

soo i plan on attending UNLV in 2 months and i was wondering if anyone has attended or is attending currently..

my questions are how are the dorms? are they small and tiny where u can only bring ur laptop, clothes? or can u bring like a bunch of stuff like ur bed and tv and etc?

and i was also wondering about the parking... are the parking lots far away from the dorms? because i dont trust parking my car far away and dorming...

i wanna live in a apartment but paying 1g a month for rent then pay gas, eletric, and internet bills.. just for a single room is bull shizz.. i live in a 2 bed and 2 bath room apartment right now in a nice city for 1300.. why in the blues heck would i pay 1 g for a single bedroom... but yea if anyone has some good information about UNLV n apartments around las vegas let me know please!

well i have neveer stayed or lived at unlv but my gf goes to school and i am a college grad that lived on campus for two years and i can tell you that a dorm is a dorm no matter where you go. there will be parking lots close to your dorm, you will have a decent amount of space for clothes and your belongings, there will be a bed (small and stiff) provided for you. thats about it really. good luck staying focused there. i had a friend drop out of unlv. vegas gets the best of you lol

I went to UNLV & grad'd w/my BS (heh) in '96, but did not live in the dorms. Like toaster says, tho, dorms are pretty much all the same. Not sure where you got the $1G/room figure, but there should be plenty of OC housing at reasonable prices. You might have paid that 5 or 6 years ago during the peak of the housing boom, but that shouldn't be the case anymore. Vegas, as a city, is fairly compact. You can live in Summerlin, Green Valley, Henderson, wherever, & still not be looking at a commute time anywhere near PHX or LA. I lived in Henderson & could get to Nellis (Air Force Base) or to school easily in less than 30 minutes, even in traffic. As far as Vegas and school goes, if you keep your head screwed on straight, it's a great place to go to school. Jobs are abundant, and the night life is awesome. Like anywhere, though, if you let your concentration lag, it's easy to get out of control. I heard a great quote while in-processing at Nellis that went something like "Those casinos aren't built on winners. Keep that in mind and you'll do alright". Good luck, in any case...//TJ
