Default side marker/turn signal mod-with video

I've been busy working on some lighting mods the last couple of weekends. This one is kind of small, but hopefully the bugs will be worked out of the bigger one next weekend.

Mooneyzs did this awhile back and I thought it was pretty cool. I used search and discovered it could also be done to the red lights in the back.

Here's the deal: When the headlights are off, both front and rear side markers perform as stock. When the headlights are on, both front and rear side markers come on. With headlights on, both front and rear side markers blink opposite to the turn signals. Doesn't sound like much, but it was fun. Here's a pic that's bad enough you can't tell how dirty the car is, but it shows the front side markers on with the lights.

click this link for a small video (only about 130k) http://www.towayalane.com/scionlife/sidemarkers.WMV

If anyone wants to do it I took a few pics, the fronts are actually a lot easier than the method you'll find be searching. The backs are a little more work, but not bad.

What do you think?

Thanks. The only thing I don't like is the rears don't blink when the lights are off. There must be an LED in there so they don't work backwards. If you have LED's in your front side markers you will have trouble also.

The how-to thread I found on here tells you how to connect the wires, but they have you fishing wires through the body for the front and removing the bumper for the rear. None of that is necessary. Let me know and I'll post some wiring pics.

Hey Brent that looks great!!! Thats awesome that you did the rear markers as well. I like it. I have LED's in my side markers and didn't have any trouble with them.

Do they blink when the headlights are off? My rears don't. Maybe you did something different, mine are wired so that the ground for the front side markers is connected to the positive side of the parking lights.

I just looked back at the thread you posted and you did it the hard way. I didn't add wire in the front, only the back. I did the back from under the car and inside without jacking or removing any body parts.

Brent thats exactly how I did mine was from this thread that you posted. It felt like it took me longer to jack the car up than to do the mod.....lol

I didn't jack the car, but my hands are kink of big so it took me for longer to plug the taillight turn signals back in.

I didn't do my rear side markers just the front side markers on the fenders.

Yes as Keoki said you can change the bulbs out to any color you want but be aware that if you don't use amber or white bulbs you have the possibility of getting pulled over Just an FYI. oh by the way the bulb size is a 194's and I would recommend going with LED bulbs.

On another Note.....Keoki.....when did you get your new wheels....Looks good Bro!!!
