Has anyone else had to replace their Serpintine belt and Idler pulley @50k miles
Mine started squealing yesterday and I know that means the idler spring is weak.

I knew I would have to do the belt around 60k thats normal but the idler is usually O.K. ,also wondering if the idler is covered by my extended warranty or is it considered a wear item????

Hmm, not sure. mine only had 20K when I traded it in

 

I think it is covered. not sure though.

I have 48K on mine and luckly no squealing for my box yet....Knock on wood!!

FYI! Mine started doing that a while back and I took it up to RIGHT TOYOTA (TALK ONLY TO FRANK), anyway he took my car down and came up about 5 minutes later and it was fixed. Guys this wont cost you anything, they just lube the belt and whatnot. My Scion had 63,000 miles on it when it started. Frank said belt was in great shape but main reason its making the noise is because the belt is drying out. THE MAIN REASON IS BECAUSE OF WHEN YOU DETEAIL YOUR MOTOR YOU GET ARMORAL OR TIRE SPRAY ON THE BELT WHICH IS OK, BUT IN THIS HEAT IT WILL DRY IT OUT. He said because of the lubricant they put on it, the belt will still be good for another 10,000 miles +. Take it to Frank and let him fix it. Tell him I sent you!
