Default Thread locking?

I posted a thread asking my friends to join me on a music community. I posted it in the "off topic" forum for the scion community at large and I also posted it here for my local friends to read since not everyone can post in or even visits the off topic area.

The thread here was locked. When I asked why it is was locked that thread was also locked.

Now please understand I've founded (and continue to run) much larger forums than Scion Life ( www.pocketbikeplanet.com and www.sportbikeworld.com to name just two). So I know how much of a pain in the ___ it can be when people spam your forum with multiple posts, But the way the forum structure is setup here if you want to invite your Scion friends to another non-scion music community you HAVE to post it in both forums to get the word out. Why? Becase not all of my Scion friends are local so they don't all visit the D&S region, and not all of my D&S friends can post in or visit the off topic forum.

I think the thread locking here goes overboard on occasion. Threads here are locked because the mods say they should be posted only in the off topic forum. So my question is this...

What exactly constitutes an off topic post and should not be posted in the D&S forum?

I'm not looking to start any trouble, I'm just confused and would like some clarification.

Thanks,

You have to pick where you want your post to go, if you want it in the regional section, ONLY post it in the regional section. If you want everyone to see it, then post in off topic. If you want more regional members to see it, then post in regional.

You can post anything you want in regional, as long as it pertains to the region. Anything that is not region specific belongs in off-topic.

But that's the problem, not everyone visits the off topic forum. So how am I supposed to reach both my local friends and also my friends outside of my region? Because with the current forum structure (and the rules for posting) do not allow me to reach both groups.

its honestly a trade off, you have to decide which is best for your situation.

you could always try attaching a link in your signature, or posting the link in another thread, nothing wrong with doing that.

Well then the system here is broken and needs to be fixed. I can understand locking a thread if it is posted in a bunch of different forums (as it should be). But a thread that is posted once in the off topic and once in the members region does not deserved to be locked IMHO.

i dont think you can consider the system broken just because your friends don't visit off topic. The post is there, and anyone can find it, they just arent finding it. And if they are your "friends" then you should be in enough contact with each other so that everyone knows what is going on.

I tend to think that if you want to post your main topic where it should belong, and then a small topic which is just a link to the main topic to let your friends know it is there, then that is OK, like what the D&S people have for classifieds. When I see multiple threads with the exact same text, that is when I lock.

So multiple posts are allowed as long as only the subject is the same but not the text body of the post?

But according to the rules here your above idea is a multiple / spam post as well and is against the rules.

https://www.scionlife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=15164

Do not multi-post the same subject on different areas. This is considered Spamming and will be deleted.

Which I have done, thanks for the suggestion.

No apology needed bro, I just needed some clarification. Maybe Darren can take a minute to make the "no spamming" rule a little more clear as the way it stands right now some multiple posts are allowed while some are not.

Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions.

I understand where you are coming from and I am sorry for the confusion, but I was letting you know how I view the situation you are in, and how to best solve it, IMO. This practice is already in place with the D&S classifieds links thread, and it seems to work well.

Perhaps we can take a look at wording this specific rule a little better.
