Default Ohioans ticketed for parking in own driveways

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090616/...aW9hbnN0aWNrZQ

Tue Jun 16, 6:52 am ET

TOLEDO, Ohio – Residents of Toledo, Ohio, are complaining that they received $25 tickets for parking their vehicles in their own driveways.

Mayor Carty Finkbeiner (FINK'-by-ner) says he stands by the citations handed out last week by the Division of Streets, Bridges and Harbor. He says the tickets were issued under a city law against parking on unpaved surfaces, including gravel driveways.

During a news conference Monday, Finkbeiner ignored a reporter's question of whether the crackdown and fines were related to the city's budget crisis.

The three-term mayor faces a recall vote in November. Critics have claimed he's wasted city money.

City Councilman D. Michael Collins calls the ticketing "Mickey Mouse nonsense." He has told residents he'll try to have the citations rescinded.

wow thats lame..sounds like Major Daley, Chicago the only city to hand over parking meters to a private company. One quarter equals 15 minutes.

So is the city going to pay for everyone to pave their driveways then?

This sounds like the crap that was happening with some HOAs a while back about not being able to park a truck at their own house.

Only in ohio will you find cities so desperate that they know when not to cross the line. Come on this is rediculious, why dont they start giving tickets to people for living in their own homes. absolutly crazy.

Pretty Standard rate for larger cities.

I got a ticket for parking in my driveway once...but I was blocking the sidewalk that runs through my driveway. If you aren't allowed to drive on sidewalks, why put them through my driveway??? Otherwise, I'll skip the traffic light next time and just hop a curb!

usually this is the standard for the downtown or metropolitan areas but Chicago made it standard everywhere in Chicago, including the not so busy areas.
