Default They dont want my business?!

Basically my question is why wont any shops install springs that I have already purchased from online?! And can anyone think of a place that WILL?

Now the story: I purchased H-Tech springs and was planning on installing them myself, but work has picked up and I really dont have enough free time on my hands to do the install. I would love to have a knowledgeable shop do the install for me. So I called around to about ten local shops and got the same response from eight. They said they simply wont install parts that they themselves didn't order. Has something to do with warranty issues, but I couldnt get a straight answer from any of them. And it makes no sense. I have a brand new car and im asking them to put on brand new springs. I understand that its changing the OEM ride height but this all seems so stupid.

They are actually going to turn my money away?!

The two places that said they would put the springs on gave me estimates of $430 and $370. So needless to say I wont be doing business with either of them.

Can anyone point me in the right direction? Or at least provide some answers?

you need to go to your local section on SL and ask people where you should go.

that is odd, spring installs aren't that difficult.

maybe the shops don't want to deal with things they don't know. my friend's evo/sti shop was hesitant to install them, it's a waste of shop's time to figure out how to do something new, and they can't charge you extra time wasted for the guy trying to figure out how to install something the first time. luckly the tech there drives a celica so he said it would be similar and did mine. it would help if you provide pre-printed instructions. but mom and pop shops probably don't want to risk doing something they've no clue on doing.

your best bet is try performance shops, or one that had worked on a tC before.

Yeah--you need to find a tuner shop--not a dealer or regular shop--they don't want the liability for such a small ticket.

im not understanding what liability they are talking about though. you want springs ..you bring in springs you want installed .... they install them. Could the shop actually be liable for your car if you just went there for an install for springs that were made for that car?

About half of the shops I called were "performance" shops. I also called places like Midas and they said they wouldnt install a part they didn't order themselves. I actually questioned the shop near my house and tried to figure out why they wont do it and they said something about them not being able to make a profit on the part so they would rather not do the work...and this was the first tC they have ever seen.

Our cars are pretty basic cars. There is no special trick to doing a spring install on our cars so I dont understand why shops are affriad to do the work. It just seems stupid that a shop will turn down money.

Gonna move this the the Regional-Great Lakes forum and see if you get any help. Often folk are reluctant to install products that they did not source because of potential liability down the road. Good luck.

If you guys want to tell me what shops to go to...and where they are that would be awsome. The problem with driving a far distance for this is that I dont have a lot of free time on my hands right now. If I did I would install them myself.

sounds like they don't support people that buy stuff off the internet. That is a growing possible problem anyway. I have that problem where I work. So I guess beware what you buy aw they may not install it if you didn't get it from that shop.

man, if I was still in town, I'd help you out. PM Dwestxb, and see if he'll help you. I talked him through his first spring install over the phone, and 1,400 miles away.

Well...I said screw it! Yesterday I had the day off so I rented a spring compressor and did it myself.

Im glad I did it myself because 1. I saved myself a ton of money and 2. Now I know how and can help other people out.

But that was damn hard! It took me about 10 hours total including breaks. Woke up today and was pretty sore. But it was worth it. The car looks great. Ill have a couple pictures up in the next couple days. Thanks for all your help guys.

And if anyone is about let a shop con them out of their money on a spring install...please just do it yourself. Find a day off and just do it. You will be happy you did.

glad you got it done yourself, but i'm not really "conning people" out of their money by charging for installation.
