window tint update?
The newest amendment.
Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code to provide that a person may drive a motor vehicle with a nonreflective material tinted film that does not allow less than 50% light transmittance (or less than 35% light transmittance if the windows to the rear of the driver already have certain window treatment applied) upon the side windows immediately adjacent to each side of the driver.
^ That doesn't make sense... 50% is lighter than 35%.
What they said is that you can have 35% if you have factory applied tint, etc. I'm guessing in non-legal terms that 35% is the darkest you can have up front. If you have darker tint in the back, the darkest you can go in front is 50%.

no, its you can have 35% all around. but the old law of you can have any % in the rear is where the 50% comes in. if you put anything under 35% in the rear then the darkest you can go is 50 in the front. but you can wrap your car in 35. at least thats the way im reading it.
i have an idea, ill do a little diagram here to what im thinking is/will be legal soon
35 in back, 35 in front=legal
5,10,15,20,25,30 in back, 50 in front=legal
5,10,15,20,25,30 in back, 35 in front=illegal
yes?

It's pretty simple, if you have darker than 35% on any of the rear windows, you may only go as dark as 50% on the front, no darker on the fronts or it will be illegal.
BUT if you have 35% on the rear, you may go as dark as 35% on the front as well.

I think xB guys get screwed because the factory rears supposedly meter at 28% Although, you could probably get away with 35% up front anyway.
Anyone have a meter? Rage?

Ian, I don't think the factory tint is lower than 35%. Most states that allow tint all the way around will only allow 35% or higher tint; even if you don't tint the front windows. I'm pretty sure that's the lowest legal limit of any state (unless they have rules like IL).
