The Wisconsin Chapter of Team ScioNRG would like to envite all of the Scion owners on a nice scenic cruise from Appleton, Wi to Door County.
Criuse Date is April 30th. Below is a tentative itenerary. This would be a great opportunity to meet with more people from the Scion community. We will also be talking about our future plans for this years meets and car shows.
Door County Flexible Itinerary
7:30 - Meet at IHOP (4101 W. Wisconsin Ave., Appleton (Grand Chute)) for Breakfast.
~8:30 - Hit the road to Door County.
The following is listed in order of location. Just a few things I think would be cool to do or nice for photo opportunities.
Bayshore County Park (on the way between Edgewater Beach and Dyckesville (giggle!!!)) – A nice little park along the water. Possible photo-op.
Farm stand (Carlsville) – A nice little pitstop. They sell all kinds of jams, jellys, cider, … This is also where we need to decide the route to the next town (Egg Harbor). Here are the choices:
Hook over towards the bay and drive on Bay Shore Drive. This route is more scenic, has views of the water, very nice houses, and a small park on the water. Possible photo-op.
-or-
Continue on Rt. 42. This way has a bunch of shops and the Door County Winery, which is pretty cool and offers free samples.
Egg Harbor – Tons of nice little shops, and very nice park that goes to the water with nice flowers.
Fish Creek – Tons of nice little shops, my favorite of the stops for walking around.
Peninsula State Park (Between Fish Creek and Ephraim) – Probably a fee to get in, not sure how much. Huge State Park with lookout towers and scenic drive. Possible photo-op.
Ephraim – A very scenic little town right on the water. Great photo-op if we can find a place to park along the water. Great place to eat in town (Wilsons). Burgers and Ice Cream reasonably priced (for Door County). My favorite place to stop and chill.
Gills Rock – The farthest you can go without getting on the ferry. Nice dockside parking with excellent views of the bay. Ice Cream. Possible photo-op.
Northport – The drive from Gills Rock to Northport is the best yet. A small two lane road that winds through the woods with trees close to the road on both sides. It looks like the place where they film performance car commercials. Possible photo-op.
From here we can decide which way to go back home. We can either go back the way we came and maybe stop at some places we might have seen on the way but did not stop at (longer time) or go a different way, down the east side of the island (quicker). The east side does not have as many towns and the scenery is not quite as nice. Bailey's Harbor is the only real place along the way and there isn't too much there. There is one restaurant that has grass on the roof of it where some goats live to keep it cut. That is right in the middle of town. Not much else. In Jacksonport there is two parks: Whiefish Dunes State Park and Cave Point County Park. I've never been to either one.
WHITEFISH DUNES PARK
Wisconsin's highest sand dunes, a beautiful sandy beach and 11 miles of trails highlight this 847-acre park. Whitefish Dunes is a day park with no campsites. Its scenic beauty, information/nature/history programs and great picnic spots make it a favorite with visitors and locals. The trails are known for great biking and hiking in the summer, fall colors and for cross-country skiing. Park trails hook up with trails in the adjacent Cave Point County Park.
CAVE POINT COUNTY PARK
Located within Whitefish Dunes State Park, this county park features picturesque limestone sea caves, the result of Lake Michigan's relentless pounding against the limestone bluffs. While the sea caves are the big draw, the 19-acre park also features a tranquil half-mile hiking trail and is a haven for a wide variety of birds.

^^ sounds like a romantic getaway!
Great scenery and a very nice leisurely cruise. There are tons of places to walk around and check out - and a butt load of little artsy fartsy shops for the girley girls should they happen to come, too. You can call it a little romantic getaway for you and her for the day and you were surprised by all the other Scions that seemed to follow you there! LOL!
A couple of other pointers:
Make sure you gas up before we get there. DC prices are notoriously higher due to all of the Illinois money there. You will probably see more IL plates than WI as DC seems to have been adopted by the affluent Chicago peeps as a great place for a summer/second home.
Everything is a little more expensive there so bring a little extra $$$. I picked Wilson's as the lunch stop because it is less expensive and the view from the patio is awesome. But is is more expensive than a burger from McD's.
The state park entrance fee is reasonable (if I remember correctly). Like - ~$5 per car. But the views and photo-ops are well worth it.
Remember to BRING A CAMERA! Believe me, you will want to take a few shots. Even a disposable would work. I will have my digital so if anyone doesn't have a camera, I will take shots for you and send 'em to ya.
Myk,
I hope we have a good turnout but it should be fun either way. I would start a roll-call but I'm an idiot and don't know how!
