MONTGOMERY — Two Huntsville men died on Wednesday when the vehicle they were riding in left the road and crashed into a tree while racing with another car, authorities said.
The driver, Joseph Pueyo, 21, and his passenger, Antonio Rosario Guevara, 19, were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the second vehicle, Jose Alonzo Martinez, 20, also of Huntsville, was not injured.
Martinez was arrested and charged with two counts of racing on a highway, causing serious bodily injury. His bail is set at $40,000 on each charge. He remained in the Montgomery County Jail this morning .
The accident occurred about 4:15 p.m. on FM 149 about two miles north of Montgomery, said Texas Department of Public Safety officials.
Pueyo and Martinez were racing in the northbound lanes when they each attempted to pass another vehicle in a no passing zone, officials said.
Pueyo's 2000 Infiniti I30 swerved off the road and struck a tree, while Martinez's 2005 Toyota Scion veered off the road in the opposite direction and struck a traffic sign.
All three men were headed home from work, officials said.

I'm just curious why in the f*** they were racing on 149 in the first place. Of all the stupid places to go fast, they pick a crappy two-lane blacktop that ALWAYS has some old granny in a Caddy or pickup doing 15mph just around the next corner!
