Default Toy Drive & Christmas

I think today we had a great start for the toy drive and it could be only the beginning. I had a thought on the whole toy drive idea. When I was in high school, through the group CSC, I did what is called Operation Santa Claus. This is basically where the majority of the toys for programs like the toy drive go. Kids volunteer with a chaperone in groups of four to deliver toys to underprivileged(sp???) and poor families in their surrounding areas.

When I did this, I have to say that while it was one of the saddest things to see the families situations, it was probably the second happiest I have ever been to see the kids and parent's faces light up when Santa and his/her helpers show up at the door with goodies for them on Christmas Eve.

I know the logistics of this would be tough, but I know in the MD DC VA area there are plenty of families who could benefit from something like this and may get overlooked, I thought maybe our area of Scion Life could get together and do something for this. How nice would it be to see boxes and eggs rolling all over the area delivering toys to needy kids?

I love Christmas and would love to try and get something together with this. If anyone has any ideas or if everyone thinks it is a waste of time, let me know so I can get a feel for where people would be at with this. We would have to collect toys and maybe get some food made the day before to give to the families, but it is possible to do. The only real problem I see is maybe finding families, but I am sure that could be overcome.

Sorry for the insanely long post, but this is something I am extremely passionate about.

Hey gizmo,
Let me know when you guys are free to have us over for the teaching session. I am trying to get together a party for people in the area for Halloween, have to see how it works out. I am going to try to get this together, just have to see how it will pan out with finding families.
