What could this tC be using?
Everyday for maybe a week, I drove past a tC in my neighborhood that looked like it had spray painted black tails. It looked terrible and sloppy, and I couldn't understand why anyone would do that. I knew it just had to be something else.
Now, the other day I drove by and the tails were smoked. Beautifully, nicely, and evenly. Of course this is getting under my skin because for the LIFE of me, I cannot figure out what product this owner used. Most of the smoking products I read about are tints and sprays that you apply, let dry and they are done. I don't see anything anywhere about what you would leave on that long that actually appears to recolor the plastic. Any ideas? Thanx!

No, you misunderstand. I am not asking what product I should use, I am asking what this person used. I have never seen a product that you put on tails, leave there for at least a week, take off, and presto! Smoked tails!

x2, i have the the housing of mine sprayed black, making the lens appear darker, but the only way to tell would be to: a. ask them or b. take a pic and maybe someone will be able to help you out. if you see them i'd go with "a".

I wish i could. But they have already taken off the thick layer of whatever it was that apparently darkened them. So now they look like any other smoked tails. I wish I would have taken a pic before, when the owner was, from what it seems, "staining" them, but I thought it was some odd, maybe crappy paint job or something. It took me a couple days to realize that he is probably doing something to them. Then by the time I saw it again, the tails were tinted, or stained, or smoked. Whatever. LOL I may leave the owner a note...

German, if you are in VB, I know a guy in portsmouth that tints tails and all... he works somewhat cheap too....

he just probably did a crappy job the first time tinting them with VHT... and then a week later wet sanded and clear coated them.
there is no product you can buy that would become nice after you wait a week. lol

eh, not who I thought it was.... I thought you were going to say black... we have a guy that rolls with us that we've been trying to talk into wetsanding and polishing his forever... figured maybe he got around to it finally.

LOL! Sry. Havent seen it this weekend. Gonna look again this week, and if so, at least leave a note. Hell, Im bugging an entire community, the least i can do is try to resolve it now. HAHAHA!
