Default WTB: 2006 Scion xA Steel Wheels & Tires(mid-atlantic)

hey everybody, my friend just curbed her 2006 scion xA when she was trying to avoid some idiot that decided to take her lane without noticing she was there. so she swerved and hit a curb and popped both her tires, possibly bent a wheel but i haven't looked at them yet, i'm waiting for daylight and the rain to go away before i look. right now her xA is on two dounuts on one side, and she has to get two new steelies with tires on them quick.

i'll probably take it to a local shop, but if somebody nearby has them sitting around and doesn't mind getting rid of them for a fair price, i'd love to save some $$$ and such.

so if you are near montgomery county maryland and have some steelies lying around, let me know please!

well it just keeps getting better and better i tell you.

she says she called wal-mart, and they quoted like 200 dollars mounted and balanced for new wheels and tires, get there this morning, they don't even sell rims...glad i got up for this, no problem, pep boys is across the street. i see $h!tty rims in their flyers every week, they should have some standard steel wheels right? no, those are special order.

running out of patiences, i say, just f__k it and take it down the road to my dealership (driving an xA with two different sized donuts on the drivers side is NOT FUN!). get to my dealership, i hand the car over, get a loaner car from them. later today. get a call, as you woulda guessed, there is alot of suspension that has been mangled through that curb. control arms, wheel bearings, knuckles, hub, brakes, all pretty much collapsed. i had a sense that it wasn't right, but i thought it was from driving with te donuts on it, i didn't know for sure if the suspension was mangled up that badly.

so anyway, the bill is up to 3 grand. so it is just going to have to go to insurance now i guess.

Kurbing a car screws and bends up lots of stuff. I am glad to hear she is
ok. Its likely the lower control arm is bent, tie rod. THe sway bar has a flexible link and the wheel bearing is likely ok unless it grinds when turned. The cvc boot could be torn or riped, it just depends on the hit.

I had a friend who bought a car at auction that was kurbed. He was lucky and it was just the rim that was bent.

I had two spare wheels and tires, but gave those to the guys in Chappmansville, WV.

I use to work at sears tire america, but we ordered wheels. We used junkyards to get wheels asap if you just wanted something that was round and holds air plus a tire.

well, atlast some good news. spoke to her insurance company. this type of thing is covered under uninsured driver or property damage, like comprehensive coverage. so she only has to pay a 250 dollar deductible. claims adjuster is going thursday to look at her car and from there i guess the dealership will take care of everything. man, what a stressful week. not for me really, but i had to listen to every agonizing whine about this problem.

hmmm...lemme check with her, if she wants them to have as spares, but since her insurance is going to cover replacing everything, and hopefully she won't be jumping any curbs again.

pm me a price and i'll think about it since clarkville is so closeby for me.

well, just got a call, claims adjuster just left the dealership. replacing 4 bent wheels, (don't know how all 4 got bent), and 2 tires, but she needs a new tires anyway, so the dealership said that they have a buy 3 get the 4th free, so since insurance is paying for 2, we just have to buy 1, and the xa gets 4 brand new tires! if people wonder why i like my dealership so much, it is good customer service like that.

replacing brake hub knuckle, springs, struts, etc, needs replacing of the rear axle, so they are getting a used one. nothing really wrong with that i don't think.

all and all it is around $3500 dollars worth of damage, so the lesson everybody is to stay away from curbs!
