Knoxville, SCION EVENT MAY?
Just saw the commercial on tv, showing the off-road test course at toyota of knoxville, i was thinking it would be a cool idea to host a scion event there, not neccessarily saying take our scions on the course, but rather have a scion cook-out at the course and maybe test drive some of the fj cruisers or tundras. I text messages sajeel about this being a possibility, and he said plan it, so i'll need to get confirmation from him if its okay and what weekend in may would be best.
I figured we all could bring something, hamburger, hotdogs, buns, chips, dips, bbq, drinks. we could all pitch in and probably have a pretty descent sized cookout/picnic. Maybe make a day out of it. Thought I would post this up and gauge some interest. see who all could make it, who all would bring food/drinks. And maybe some give aways, I work for wal-mart so i might be able to talk my store manager into donating some stuff maybe some food not sure i'll ask and see.
Were all does everyone work maybe we can pull together and get some donations for some pretty cool giveaways. I don't know you guys throw out some ideas... lets see just how many people we can pull together on this one.. got a month basically to plan it maybe more depending on the date we pick. Maybe not just scions but what about the whole toyota community?
lets see what we can come up with...

p.s. just need to get confirmation on the date, see if you guys can't let your fellow scion friends that may not be on the forum know about this possibility of an event... the more the merrier<sp>.
yeah I think you are right. I will be there but I wont be able to officially confirm until I know of a date...Aleka and I have some work things that we have to go to...as well as we are going to Savannah one weekend depending on the schedule at work.
Also, i was thinking of this....I doubt that Toyota is going to let us have an event over there...I mean you have to think of things like insurance....things like that...Why dont we drive to Gatlinburg and go to a picnic area or something.?
Hi Knoxbox, Jmack, Dragon-
I think a picnic is a great idea. Across the street from the store is a parking lot surrounded by a construction zone. I agree with Jmack though--it might work better at a park since the store will DEFINITELY not open up the test track for anyone to drive it (it's huge liability issue just for the salespeople).
The weather will be great in May and it gives up plenty of time to plan it. Definitely not the weekend of the 25th though since that's the Slammin and Jammin show in Lebanon, TN. Maybe the weekend before that (19th) if people aren't going to the Hoover show in Alabama.
I can kick in for food and prizes for some kind of drawing. Should we shoot for early afternoon (between noon and three) or late afternoon (say two o'clock until evening)?

okay, now im confused, by the looks of the commercial with it saying off-road test coarse, being a consumer it looks as though if i were interested I could go and see what the truck could do before purchasing, that commercial is a little decieving. I wonder how many people have asked about it due to the commercial...
okay welp, change of plans then... gatlinberg on a weekend eek.. traffic is bad enuf during the week out here. but im game we haven't done anything out my way so shorter drive for me. anyone know of a good place to picnic, i was wanting to do more than just hang out actually an activity... maybe a picnic area with a open field we could play some touch football or toss a frisbee around or maybe a lake area were we could catch a swim if it was warm.. I usually go cliff diving out at melton lake, we could go there they have picnic tables and grills there to use if im not mistaken. not saying anyone has to cliff jump/dive but they have a doc and you could swim. just some ideas... throw something out there so we can figure out what we all would want to do.

I think it's a great idea. Anyone know of a good location? Even something closer like in the Halls area or Norris or something?
About the test track, yes it is for the customers to drive and experience the capabilities of the new Tundra/ FJ but when you mentioned "have a scion cook-out at the course and maybe test drive some of the fj cruisers or tundras." That would really be more entertainment than selling and just wouldn't work with the liability aspect. If anyone is interested in purchasing a Toyota truck let me know. We'll find the truck configuration that meets their needs and demonstrate the off road capabilities on the test track. Anyway, moving on.
How many people would drive out to G'burg for a picnic? What if it was more local? I think it'd be cool to have a line of Scions going up the interstate, but Ryan's right, the traffic would make it a long drive.

i think it'd be cool to meat at toyota and drive from there, a long line of scions driving up would be cool i'd make the drive... depends on time of day to we could avoid traffic...
i understand about the test course, robbie might be coming back to you seems as though he is trying to get together a down payment so he can get a truck... not sure but he mentioned something about it.

hey dcap8424,
I guess, I'll have to 'fess up. I drive an xB and it's been a long time since I went to a fraternity party or got carded for a beer. There's a great quote attributed to Scion vice-president Mark Templin from earlier this year. He was asked by an automotive journalist if the strong sales of Scion vehicles to "older" customers (boomers, etc) was percieved as Scion marketing missing its mark? He replied that if an older customer purchases a Scion vehicle then he could guarantee that that person was the "hippest person in their peer group."
BTW, Stryker- if you're thinking about getting a Scion tC... uhm, I know a really good guy at the dealership...
Seriously, although most of the people coming to the Knoxville Scion events have Scions, not everyone does. It would be a good opportunity to see the cars someplace other than at the dealership and you could get straight talk from the owners themselves. Feel free to come out. As far as this picinic thing... If we do it in May what about a Sunday? Every Saturday in May is a car show event.
