Default i have an unusual request...

i've my little box for about 7 months now, and i would love to be able to work on it w/ some confidence.

i want to learn about auto mechanics - i'm happy to help other scion owners (who know what they're doing) on the weekend w/ some car stuff while i learn from them. i have done some oil changes 12 years ago , had to change my tire when it went flat, kind of experiences.

i used to be a network tech, worked on computers, now i'm an it analyst. so i shouldn't be totally useless!

anyone interested in imparting their knowledge??

i love cars, especially toyotas. i want to learn how to fix, put them together etc. in short everything and anything!! i learn quick and i'm pretty handy if that helps
i'm the sort that wish that i grew up w/ a dad or mom that worked on cars so i could join in - of course my dad did not have a clue about them!

They're really easy to work on. I guess the best way to do it is to just do it... there are a lot of tech articles on here and Toyota tech specs that are all pretty easy to follow. So long as you think things through from start to end and don't get discouraged along the way it will just come to you! Eventually your box will become Legos to you.

i want to install a nice (powerful exhaust), short shifter and rear sway bar in the next month. depending on the cost of the exhaust... i'm just afraid of breaking stuff.

does anyone know how much extra hp a sports exhaust would give my baby?

i hope i can ask you for tips, babybear that would be cool, thanks!

I've heard of "install parties" happening here and there, that would be a great way to learn. I, too, am clueless about ICE mechanics, but am a quick study and would like to know a few things.

I'll bring the beer ...?

some guys from mn scions hosted an install party at the begginning of spring i thnk it was... it was pretty cool... maby another one in spring time would be good...

now as for HP gains.... it wold depend on the products you bought

possible cold air intakes are AEM, Injen, DC sports

headers i think DC makes em too

and tons of options for the exhaust

I don't know much about them. I'd assume that whoever's having the party at this time of year better have a heated garage..

i got my eyes on a progress rear sway bar and the strup exhaust, and i'd like to be able to install them myself, but don't have the jacks OR the heated garage

are u offering to host an install party?

oh wait, let me get the parts first! maybe adam's big secret can help me pay for them WHEN THE TIME IS RIGHT, hehe. nothing wrong w/ intermingling threads, is there?

i'm looking for the best bang for the buck, can't afford to do them all at once. if i was rich i would like swap the engine for a corolla or a celica one.

what mods do you have, josh? i think you, adam and jp take off faster than me!

i have an axel back exaust and thats it... i doubt it even adds 1 horse... but i do have lighter aluminum rims and ive taken out all the spare tire and stuff form the back so that does help to lighten it up making it a bit more faster too... but its mostly just because i like to floor it alot! lol
