That's what I thought but I can't find anything to confirm it and I have a customer that wants to tint his front windows to match.

The tint on the vehicle comes at 30% which is legal as long as it does not include the driver, passenger and windshield. Some vehicles such as minivans and trucks, come with 20% tint on the rear and side windows.

The legal tint percent for the front driver/passenger is 50%, not including the rears but people can still see you pick your knose when its that light lol...and we dont want that rofl

Aslo, its illegal to tint the windshield passed like 6 inches from the roofline, so you can still have that sun visor tint.

These regulations vary widely by state. For example, windshield tint in is regulated by the following california vehicle code language:

transparent material may be installed,
affixed, or applied to the topmost portion of the windshield if the following
conditions apply:

(1) The bottom edge of the material is at least 29 inches above the
undepressed driver's seat when measured from a point 5 inches in front
of the bottom of the backrest with the driver's seat in its rearmost
and lowermost position with the vehicle on a level surface.

(2) The material is not red or amber in color.

(3) There is no opaque lettering on the material and any other lettering
does not affect primary colors or distort vision through the windshield.

(4) The material does not reflect sunlight or headlight glare into the
eyes of occupants of oncoming or following vehicles to any greater extent
than the windshield without the material.
A lot of sites, including the CHP's official site give information that ranges from incorrect to deceptive. The vehicle code is the definitive source.

To be safe, find the exact vehicle code that applies in your state, make sure that your tint is in compliance, and put a copy of the vehicle code section with your registration papers just in case the gendarme isn't as well informed as you are.

Wanted to add, for your customer...
I tinted mine to 30% in the front, its pretty dark, but if I get pulled over I have a badge to get me out of it. Hopfully.

If he wants to be on the safe side I'd say 40% would be ok.

Thanks for that added info George. I hear nothing but bad things about CA cops and mods.

Well, I've had no problem, but my mods are subtle and (mostly) legal. The fact that my beard has a bit of grey in it is probably helpful too.

I had my front windows tinted 15% in the front and it looks perfect in my opinion. Matches the rears great!
