Default Beware of 5,000 mile service charges

I purchased a 2008 Scion TC in November from Sloane Toyota/Scion and scheduled the 5,000 mile complementary service with Thompson Toyota/Scion, Doylestown, PA since I live minutes away. When making the service appointment, I confirmed that the service was complementary and no charge. When I arrived to take the TC home, I was charged approximately $98 for the oil change and related 5,000 mile service. The service manager advised me that this was NOT a complementary service call no matter what was said when I made the service reservation or provided in the owner's manual. I had to pay the charges or my TC would remain at Thompson Toyota/Scion. With great reluctance and reservation (and high blood pressure), I paid the bill with a credit card. When I arrived home, I reviewed the documents provided at the point of sale. I called Scion and confirmed that the 5,000 mile service was complementary. After a few telephone calls (with the sevice manager mysteriously "At A Meeting," and a very evasive Thompson staff, I was assured that it was simply a MISTAKE committed by a new employee. The service manager has been at this dealership for a long, long time. I am still not sure that the charge will be removed from my credit card. This may be the beginning of a long ordeal.

It is my opinion that this conduct is a deceptive business practice. Beware. This was NOT a simple mistake by an employee.

My 5k, 10k, and 15k services were free...

But then again they didn't put my oil cap back onto the car so they had to bend over whenever I wanted something done to my car.

Call up scion corporate. The only thing that should have been done at 5k miles is an oil change. ALL scion dealerships are supposed to honor the 3 free oil changes.

yea thats weird. i have never heard of a 5k mile service. i know at 5k they want u to get ur first oil change but for a first oil change thats a long time. if u didnt authorize that work being done than u dont have to pay for anything.

And now to set things straight I introduce "Scion" Ed!!

Good Evening....If your Scion is a 2008 Model You No longer get three free oil changes.

You do however Get a 5k and 10 k Service for free. Which includes an oil change and basic checkup tires, fluids etc..

All in all a greater dollar value than just the oil changes.

Im sorry to hear you had that experience. Thats what makes Peruzzi the premiere PA Scion Dealership. When it's time for your 10k or any other service...come see us...we'll take good care of you and your baby.

With the 2008 model year, Scion went to just making the 5000 mile and 10,000 mile service complementary. You should not have been charged for it!

lol thats because they dont care about selling scions. people come in and say what tehy want, they say thats the price they pay (sticker) and the car is sold. sales men love selling scions, its the easiest sale.

nah dave, i dealt with another guy at turnersville....and another toyota dealership. i got a call from them every single day for about 2 weeks after test driving the car and crunching some numbers. (they still called me even AFTER i bought a car.)

then i called the dealership one day, talked to my guy steve....told him what i wanted he got it ready for me and later that night i was at the dealership for no more than a half hour-45 minutes before i left with my car. he didnt try to get me to buy any extra stuff/add ons...which gets them more money. all i wanted was the spoiler and he left it at that.

you pay sticker yeah but as for as interest rates you can bring them down. which we did.

May I asked who did you talk to at Thompson Service? I recommend going to Michelle.....she is in charge of the orange team and will give you great customer service. If you need help look out for a White Turbo Tc near the scion building ^_^ I work at the detail shop.

Sorry to hear about your situation. I guess they're not so "SCION"! 2008 Scion 5k/10k Comp Maintenance Service should be in their system. We have it in our system to avoid any "new employee" type mistakes.

Next time just hit up a reputable Scion Dealership like Sloane/Champion Toyota/Scion (becuase I work here and I have control over everything related to Scion. lol!). I also recommend Peruzzi if you are out there becuase Ed and his crew are hard core Scion people!
