Default Guitar Lessons

Wasn't sure to post this here or off-topic, considering it is off-topic but also regional. So if it gets moved, I understand.

Anyway, I've been trying to play guitar for a few weeks now and I'm slowly picking it up, I'm getting a new Ibanez in a few weeks and was wondering if anyone knew a good place to take lessons in the North Jersey area.

hey man

honestly, u can learn to play urself with books or computer programs...

i was taught when i first started playing, in 6th grade(20 y.o. now) and i can look back and say that i really didnt need any of it

you can learn all ur scaled progressions and chord theory from a good ol book.

anyway its entirely up to u obviously, lol, but i would give it a shot without help first, if u come out of it great, u will have higher satisfaction knowing u did it urself. Without having someone to hold ur hand...err...fingers the whole way thru. Lol

JUST REMEMBER TO USE UR PINKY FINGER WHEN U PLAY..dont develop the habit of using just 3 fingers....ive been thru it

but good choice on the gear man, Ibanez makes great guitars. Ive owned 3 of them, and just bought my 4th one last year, i still have them all too

I dedicate some of them for specific drop tunings, like Drop C, and Drop D, Open E

What model do u have?

My very first was a GAX70. I loved that thing, lol I felt so badass in 6th grade.

but now i have a Ibanez RG 350DX..love ittt

just upgraded to Seymour Duncan SH-6 Humbucker Bridge and SH-2N Jazzy Humbucker Neck.

anyway good luck

I tried to learn on my own and got nowhere lol. Then my friend whose been teaching himself, and he showed me how to play a few things. I'm still working on Wonderwall and I can do Sunshine of Your Love by Cream, Hey There Delilah by Plain White T's, and the intro to Beast and the Harlot by Avenged Sevenfold. Not very fluently yet, but just by practicing things like that, I'm getting to know where my hand is without having to look at the neck. I've been looking at some tabs and I'm trying to get used to fretting and everything. I just want to take lessons so I can actually learn the proper way to play.

That's the Ibanez I'm getting, it's nothing special, mostly a beginners guitar.

^def nick they really are....

but to the Original Poster....

A7X shi*t is so much fun to play...esp bat country..lol i love them

but yea i would def get to learn the basics about scales(pentatonic and such) and chord construction before u start getting all involved with tabs...

its so much better to actually know what goin on when u play those tabs ya know?

but best of luck man dont give up

That's exactly why I want to take actual lessons. I'm just practicing some basic riffs right now just so I can get used to holding the guitar, knowing where my hand is, freting, strumming...etc...
