help with Long Island, NY
Hey guys, I'm in the Coast Guard and I am in IT A school. We got our billet choices and I've narrowed down between East Moriches, NY, Baltimore, MD and Miami Beach, FL. I rank at the top part so I'll most likely end up with NY.
How is the Long Island area especially near E Moriches? I'll be getting 1767$ a month for housing. Is this a good/decent amount for the area? What type of events go on? I am 21 without a family. Any general info would be helpful

If I had choice :21 without a family,
No brainer, I would go to Miami, FL and maybe live just outside the area.... nice weather in a popular all season vacation spot + Spring Break parties= Girls, beaches , close to most single nite life at clubs.
The cost of living/gasoline/Housing/Taxes/car insurance is way cheaper and can't be compared to Long Island NY. Just my 2 cents. LOL
Good Luck on your choice

Miami all the way man......____ if i had that choice I would leave here way cheaper to live and if you get NY go to one of the 5 boroughs anything outside of that you're going to be bored out of your mind, lol

Miami is 1311$ a month for housing. Other billets I'm considering were Baltimore, MD and Mobile, AL. I have to pick reasonably otherwise ill end up in Kodiak, AK. Beating someone includes grades, time in service, marks, sea service, awards, etc. so we can kind of guestimate who each person can beat. Ill get NY fairly easy Miami is long gone as the top 2 in the class are fighting for it.

Ya just need to do your homework on internet to find the best + affordable area for your income + lifestyle. Remember times are getting harder+ things are going to get more costly in the future + not cheaper. The poop has hit the fan with government + state agencies debt + them unable to agree on a good solution.
"Failure to prepare is preparing for failure"
Good Luck

Yeah, like everyone else who lives in NY has said, L.I. would not be their top choice for a single 21yr old, you'll need every bit of that housing allowence. E. Moriches is a suburban community where ppl spend a good 1.5 hrs each way to commute to NYC. Miami would be the choice if you like to party. Baltimore area is o.k. You might also look at climate how do you feel about snow and winter temps in the 20's and 30's that's both NY & MD

ended up going with Mobile, Alabama lol. I was in Key West and didn't care to get caught up in the BS that Miami has and Alabama will help my career the most. I've always wanted to visit NY, NY though

This looked like a good local chat site for Mobile, AL, to find out what presently is going on there or to get additional information. Good Luck
