So...a friend of mine can get me a ridiculous discount on audio stuff for my car. I'm probably going to be getting boston accoustics stuff. what i wanted to know is if any of you guys have had equipment by them before and if you liked it or not, or can recommend what i get by them...also i need a new HU doesnt matter who it is, as long as it has a 30pin ipod connection (so i can control it through the HU)

also...another friend of mine said he'd instal the stuff for me, i just wanted to know if you guys knew of any snags or whatever in a tc that would make a normal install a pita for him.

boston is pretty nice stuff, i had my xa done in all boston. top notch stuff. it really depends on what ya are looking for sound wise. is that all they can get is boston? or do you have other options. h/u wise what are you looking to get? just a cd or something with dvd or nav? if ya have aim hit me up. blimon63. i can help ya out

yeah everyone keeps telling me to get the d3...its kind of pricey though. i wouldnt be getting a discount on that, he doesnt getone off pioneer stuff.

BA's are nice, especailly for SQ performance. I used to have a set and loved thim, the only downfall is the price, but with 70% off you should be all set.

 

boston is good stuff, a little on the bright side for my taste, but many people like the sound.

Most are nice and transparent.

The bare minimum i would suggest is a DEHp500ub

it comes with a usb port so you can plug in your ipod cable directly to it, while still charging and controlling it through the radio.

for Pure Sq I would run either a DEH-P800PRS, AVH-P7800DVD, or the AVIC-Z3. their depending on your av/ nav needs. the proccesors are ten times better then their less expensive counter parts...
but price might be an issue.

 

if nav is really what you want, stay away from the d3..... kenwood has a really impressive nav system these days, built by garmin and updatable via usb / sd cards. way better that having to use the nav discs with the d3

pretty much ANY decent headunit these days is gonna have some sort of ipod connection, so shop around and find one that works for you. i personally roll with alpine, but pioneer does make a great ipod interface too.... the new kenwood decks will even show your album art on the screen, and streaming video is controllable from the h/u instead of from the ipod (d3)

as far as install goes, no problems at all. standard toyota plugs, and dash kits are money. if you roll with the d3 a little modification is needed so the radio door will still close. oh, and pick up a peripheral pes-wiakj or pes-swix to keep your steering wheel controls ;)
