i want a black headliner, where can i go around here?
hey i want to make my headliner for my tC black, where can i go around here for this? i live in southern RI, btw.. i dont care if i use a different material, change the color of my OEM headliner, or anything, but help please!
Jo Anns Fabric, black suede.......then hit Home Depot for the good glue....take the head liner out.......whip it down, spray it and the material for a strong bond....flatten out, cut access holes where need...reinstall TADA your done....pretty simple to do too
or you can just dye it with duplicolor vinyl & fabric spray paint.... you can find it at autozone/pepboys. i needed about 6 cans for an xB headliner but it came out really nice
well i did mine two months ago and it didnt fade, and it doesnt rub off. maybe it depends on how many coats you do? i did three coats... it's nice and black now. and i've touched the roof, i've rubbed against it when i'm working in the car - and nothing has changed since the first day i dyed it
hmmm... maybe ill try it out. would i have to take out my headliner to do it? or just cover up the windows and everything make sure it doesnt get on them? taking out headliner would be my biggest issue, whether i did fabric or spray paint (if i had to)... how did you do it?
well i have an xB... but all i had to do was take out the handles/visors/dome light etc... then pull down the rubber that goes alongside the doors when they're open, and you should be able to pull out the headliner. now of course that's for an xB so research b4 u do the tC but yeah - it was sooooooooooo easy for the xB to do
and then i just painted my pillars black at the same time
and then i just painted my pillars black at the same time
hmmm... yeah ill see. i wouldnt want to really mess up anything just spraying with it in, so maybe id find someone that knows what theyre doing and have them take out the headliner with me. i have the front&rear side airbags and i could never tear out the headliner anyway. so ill find someone to help me out. well see.
sorry no offense Sam or anyone else that has"dyed" the headliner....if you want a really nice look just rewrap it imo it looks better...removing stuff is easy...just becareful is all. If you have questions use the search here and chances are you will find it...This site is FULL and I mean FULL of useful info regarding DIY'ers.......but yeah either way, paint or wrapping...ya really need to pull it out to make it easier LOL best of luck to ya...if ya need help just hit us up....right Sam LOL
Do not try it while it's in the car.. baaaaaaad idea. The thread following the events if you were to do this would consist of..
"How to remove overspray from touchscreen nav device?"
"HELP PLEASE OVER SPRAY EVERYWHERE!!!"
"Wow, I wish I would have listened to that tmrepp kid..."
"Help, mineral spirits to remove overspray melting holes in dash, bondo?"
Haha, all jokes aside.. don't be lazy. Go slow, don't pull anything or push it to it's limits. Plastic is not very hard in our cars, but at the same time it will CREASE and turn white-ish before it breaks on you (most likely). Good luck to you, whenever you get around to it.
