So how about this. I never shut off the water line that goes to my outside hose before winter and yesterday, while I was sleeping, our neighbor pounded on our door for about half an hour because the line busted and water was gushing out everywhere like a fountain. Our whole yard (including the steps), the neighbor's driveway, the parking area in front of our house, my central air box and half the block is one big slab of ice.
