OK, all. I am throwing this out there to see if anyone can answer this question. On my other car the other day, my father-in-law was driving the car and he felt that it was slowing down even though he pressed the gas more. When he go to where he was going the plastic hubcaps fell off the 2 front wheels because they had melted off the car. We thought it was something with the brakes, so we took them off the front wheels. Come to find that there were still break pads left, but the rotors ha some cuts in them. OK, well then I thought that it might be the calipers. So i check them to see if they were closing and releasing. They were, so they are good. So I open the bleeders to test the master cylender, fluid flows so that is ok.
So my question is what the heck else could be causing the front wheels to lock-up and get so hot that it could melt off the hubcaps during long rides, but goes completely unnoticed if you are driving short distances?
Any ideas, clues, or help would be great. Thanks all.

check the tires, see if you notice any unusual wear
could be something with the drive wheels slipping or what not

Wheel bearing? Just throing it out there. I'm putting my 18's back on even though I haven't bought new tires yet, I could probably go another month or 2 at least till it need inspected. Maybe if its sunny I'll take pics.
thanks for the info all. I just think I am screwed. I might try and sell the piece of crap off and get a beater. I just need a car to get my wife up the hill and around the area when I am at work.
