Question about in-dash GPS/radio & about ipod compatibility in TC 08
I'm thinking about buying an in dash gps and I'm looking at the following:
JVC KW-NT1 ($630 on Amazon)
JVC KW-NX7000BT ($775 on Amazon)
Kenwood Excelon DNX9140 ($1150 on Amazon)
I would really prefer the Kenwood one but I just want to make sure it is worth the pricetag. Anyways, my question is whether or not these are easily installable/hassle free in the Scion TC 08. Meaning, it will fit with the stock scion cover and all, and that it can be hooked up to work with the iPod connection outlet found in the center console storage compartment. I don't want to have to hook an iPod wire up to the face of the in dash unit to use my iPhone because that would just be annoying and for these prices, I want this to be seemless.
Also, what do you think of the units?
Thanks!

Eh not a fan of the JVCs but a fan of the kenwood one. I dont know much about any of them. I have a Pioneer avic-d3. I would recommend for you to search http://www.crutchfield.com/ for headunits. Their prices are very reasonable. When you buy it also comes with the harness that is required to hook up the headunit to the stock wiring of the car. No you will not be able to use the stock ipod connector in the center console. You have to run the new ipod wire from the headunit down the center console, pop the existing ipod connector plug out and run the wire through there. Same thing in the end, just requires some more work. For installing Double din headunits you also need a metra kit which will come with the kit if your order from the site i gave you. To make the cover close, you will need to drill 4 new holes in the stock brackets. Also easy to do.
Good luck and ask me if you have any more questions.

thanks guys. im looking through crutchfield right now. maybe you guys can help me out by pointing me in the right direction. my biggest requirements are a bigger display (i like the ones with minimal buttons along the bottom), works with my iphone 3gs and i can do that thing you (joyride) mentioned earlier with wiring an ipod wire to my center console discreetly, and this one is a toughy, has speed limit data in the GPS. i've been spoiled by my garmin gps (that is why i was looking at kenwood, i figured they would have speed limit since they have garmin gps). i rely on that pretty heavily these days. a nice looking interface for the whole system doesnt hurt either, im a sucker for that kinda thing since im a freelance web developer.
so recap,
- bigger screen less bulky buttons
- can discreetly wire iphone cable to center console
- has speed limit data on gps (im in boston, its tough to catch every speed limit sign)
im not TOO worried about price, as long as the thing is nice and not like 1500 :D
BTW, joyride, crutchfield is awesome :D thanks

oh btw, just wanted to say thanks for all the help
im new to this whole car modding thing and this is just one of the things im doing to the car. my buddy (http://www.flickr.com/photos/inphlue...7622714185710/) is helping me make the decisions and so far this is what im gonna do when spring comes around:
- drop the car 1 inch
- throw on JP Vizage lip kit (ex here)
- throw on gold rota grids (ex here - fellow scionlife member)
- throw on the factory carbon fiber dash applique
- throw in the head unit
i have a similar blue to the one with the rota grids and currently have the factory lip spoiler
what do you guys think?
