i dont really mind the look too much not something i would pay for but what bothers me is its a ford...i would trust my xB in the long haul over that car anyday.

My parents used to have fords and had nothing but problems, my sister had a focus and it was in the shop every other week.

Who knows maybe ford turned around for the better im def eager to find out

thats just my opinion but the new ones could prove me wrong

the engine is an evolution of fords 4cyc that they have had for awhile. its also in the mazda 3. im not really worried about mechanical stuff going wrong and if it does...100k mile warranty ill do nicely. its a car, cars break.

fords initial quality is the same as toyotas. and they have a 5yr/100k mile warranty standard. a corolla with the same options as this focus is +$19k. the focus she is looking at its $17k - $1500 in rebates and 3.9% financing. its a good deal.
Initial quality is ownership over the first 3 months. It means nothing...While I won't say anything about the new Focus, since I haven't had the chance to work on it, nor drive it, I will say that the last gen Focus was the biggest piece of trash on the road. Worse quality than 90's Hyundai's. I've seen first hand Ford's improvement in quality, as I'm a certified Ford FACT tech, plus the Focus has a lot of Volvo in it's backbones, in terms of safety. I'd take the Corolla over the Focus though. Main reason, resale value. That Focus will be worth, at most, $12,000 after 1 year of ownership.

see the problem is that she still has negative equity in her xA and the rebates and special financing covers that.

it might be stupid to some to trade in a car after a a year and half but until you have to put your kid in there and you dont feel safe you wont be able to understand.

she would be looking at a $21k corolla VS a $17k Focus. $4k is alot of money

scott, i'd say do whatever lets her feel safe in the car. her safety and the boys safety is most important. I really doubt shes worried about trading the car in and only getting 12k for it after a year, right?

Yes there is, anticipate it. All cars have to meet safety standards today, so almost no matter what car you get (especially an economy car), the outcome will be the same.

exactly. and seeing as there is a $4k difference between this focus and a similar corolla it doesnt really matter.

what brace my self so when it hits me i can break my arms! great idea.

each time i was hit i was stopped at alight. and had enough room so that after i was hit i didnt hit the guy in front of me. nothing more i can do with on coming traffic.

scott. you know how you can prepare yourself?

be one of those self righteous ball bags that drives the chevy suburban with the 8" lift and 43" super swampers on it. that way, if someone tries to hit you, they'll go straight under the truck.

No need to worry about getting rear ended, cause they'll go under the car.

LOL

When did I say brace yourself? Oh that's right, I didn't. In fact, I know that the best thing to do prior to getting into an accident, is relax and let the car do it's thing. And if you're THAT worried about safety, why even look into a car as cheap as the Focus? If it's that much of a priority, you should get a Volvo.

im not sure you really understand where im coming from. or that you have a realistic grasp on vehicle safety so im just gonna stop.

jim - haha my friend had a dodge ram i could park my old jette under. you deff fell safer. as long as you dont have to brake quickly or turn fast.
