it's not the worst state ever, you just have to make the most of your time dave. as for Chels there is no harm in finding information in schools and what not and networking to see what this state really has to offer.

ill disagree with davedave 150% on this one. i just graduated from boston college in may... and im from upstate ny. i came here and have been living here the past 5 years, and ive absolutely loved it to a point where im now living here after graduating. my 4 years at BC were amazing, and my overall time spent here in the boston/mass area has been awesome. boston is a GREAT college town, probably one of if not the best college towns in the entire country. no matter what school you go to, youre going to get an amazing experience. the new england region is known worldwide for its colleges and universities, and ill tell you from the experience i had, i can see why

I think anyone will hate the state they've grown up in. I'm already looking at three colleges (BU, Clark U and RIT) for Graphic Design. There is no way in hell I am staying in California for college. State colleges are already telling 2010 applicants that enrollment for 2010 is closed or SEVERELY limited in space. Impacting further courses and raising tuition? No thanks.

Just seems none of the big campuses IN Boston have Graphic Design, which is weird..

 

Go to RIT - really nice school, and excellent GA program. My son will be starting his fourth of five years in the fall (computer science major), and he loves it there. My daughter was also going to go there this year for graphic arts, but chose Skidmore instead - only because they gave her a grant she 'couldn't refuse'.

However, Henrietta (where RIT is located) certainly can't compare to Boston for nightlife and the like. All depends on what's important to you - more focus on the education, or enjoying the entire college experience.

The thing about RIT is... the price tag. I looked in the Boston area and didn't really see any colleges with a graphic design program other than the Art Institute, MasArt and.. some other private college that starts with M. Is there a decent listing of the schools in MA other than collegeboard.com and your craptastic websites that list generic schools THEN uni's+state colleges? I'd prefer to be in MA over NY.
