Default happy holidays from Texas!

hey everyone!
I know this time last year I sent out holiday cards to quite a few of you, but since I've gotten back to Texas I haven't had much free time. I thought I'd post an update (if I wanted sympathy I could look it up in the dictionary between.... ) I got this Christmas present on Thursday December 22nd around 10:30pm CST. A deer hit me , yes I mean that literally, while going about between 60-65mph on my way back home. Damn thing made it across the two lanes of highway speed traffic going the other way and busy with cars before taking aim at the xA and tumbling down the driver's side.. Freakiest thing was seeing the doe's head next to mine in the glass just before the airbags went off and the engine cut out. I survived without a scratch or the car tipping over (think of a 175 pound sack being shot at the car) so far damages have totalled up to over $7k, but they aren't done yet. I'll update when I hear hopefully today so I can get rid of this POS rental malibu. I hope each of you have had a much better holiday, and all the best to NorCal

this is the front shot, you can see how the impact doesn't start at the front, but from the side...

a better view of the actual impact point... it buckled the hood plus the damage you see, luckily I was able to drive it home (slowly, it would rub the inner fender cover on bumps)

this is the driver's door, if you look at the inside portion you'll notice it's buckled in so that means all new door

that's the driver's side rear door, the line you see is supposedly the support beam, which also got bent... new door there too

and those are the driver's side airbags, if you look closely you'll see the one in the seat went off too

Toufic,

WHOA, sorry to see the xA damaged.

BUT the main thing is, YOU weren't seriously injured! Its nice to know these cars can take a beating and not have anyone get seriously injured.

I guess a few drinks will take away the soreness for a bit.

Have a Happy New Year!

Am I wrong for thinking the same thing? Think of all of the sausage, and stew one can have!

Toufic, time to come back to the Bay Area!

Just talked to Toufic and the total so far is $7000 to fix the xA. He just left for the body shop right now to meet up with the insurance again.

well insurance finally decided to fix it, so it should be ready in about 2.5 weeks..

EvilDave: blue paint? maybe you're seeing the reflection of the sky on the paint that didn't come off? You'll need to point out where you're seeing it...

either way, so all new stuff being thrown on there and from what I could tell before I took it in there wasn't any structural damage so it should be back to good soon

I think he's talking about this pic here. See how it looks dark blue right above the wheel.. Probably just the angle or maybe primer?

Default Hey Toufic

Hey glad to hear that you are okay. David got a similiar present the day after you when he was coming home from getting gas and someone rear ended him in the bB. Yoiu guys will have to wait until my husband can post up the pics as I am computer illiterate. Glad to hear you are ok though Toufic, David survived the matrix that hit him. The guy who hit him isn't answering his phone so AAA isn't doing anything for us so we have to go through our insurance and pay because this a$$hole hit us. Oh well, hope everything else is going well for you in Texas. Have a safe and happy new year Love ya, Katrina and David

Sorry to hear about your troubles Toufic. I have been driving when a deer decided to be brave and take on the car before but nothing like yours. I don't know if the impact of the deer or the sudden inability to see out of the side windows because of the curtains would scare me more.

Katrina,

If David was rear-ended, its not his fault, and you shouldn't be paying for anything.

Was a Police report taken? If not, I hope you guys at the minimum have the guy's name, Driver's license number, vehicle license number, and year/make/model/color fo the offending vehicle.

I usually tell peeps to spend the $8 or so for a dispoable 35mm camera just in case something like this happens.

At least no one got hurt!

Hey Brad thanks for the info. The CHP did take a report, the problem is that even though the guys insurance company, AAA, is claiming responsibility they cannot get a hold of him and will not do anything for us until they do. We are leaving to go to San Diego tomorrow to visit my family for the holidays so we need a rental car because we don't want to drive the new 4x4 tacoma. anyhow our insurance company is paying for most of it but we have to cover the rest. i don't get it either that we should have to pay anything because AAA is admitting their dirver is at fault but oh well.

Holy shi@ft BATMAN...I think we hit something! OUCH! Glad to hear that you are OK and safe. I would think that you would hit more cows than deers at Texas.
Glad to hear that your insurance will take car of it. Nice to hear from you but now this way. Take care and say "HI" to your family for me. Have a safe and a Happy New Year!
