Default ok guys im bothered..

i keep asking different people if having no license plate in the front is illegal and they keep answering me different stuff..

i got 2 license plate and i did put the other one with the sticker at the back and i put the other 1 in the windshield right side.. i got 2 holes pre-dented in the bumper but i dont like putting a hole in there...

some people say its ok and they have their car running for years without license plate infront and some people say it depends on the cop if they wanna be dicks and some people say its fine as long u have one at the back...

guys what is the truth!!! i live in san jose, ca.

Inorder to be totally legal, you have to mount the front lisense plate to the front bumper. Putting it on the windshield is illegal but some cops let it go. I have no front plates which is illegal, but that's a risk you gonna have to take if you dont want it on front plates.

If you dont want to put holes on there... I'll sell you my lisense plate relocator bracket which attaches to the lower tC grill without any modifications to your car. I bought that thing a while back for 20 bucks but have no use for it bc I already have holes.

i would use James's bracket... that way you wouldn't have to drill into your nice bumper.

you're lucky the dealer didn't.

it is illegal to not have the plate displayed in the front and nothing can be covering it even if it is clear material or glass like your windshield.

depends on the cop.

i would rather just mount it where it should be... (use bracket to avoid drilling holes) than to bother with a cop.

Because if you look on the packages the liscence plate covers come in they will always say, (in VERY TINY LETTERS) - "For Off-Road Use Only" i.e. they can't be used on public streets.

That way, you can't sue the mfg of the covers if you get a ticket. They just say - "your honor, we have the notice on our packaging it's for off-road use only".

I imagine people put them on the windshield because MOST cops want to be able to see vehicle ID from the front and the back and probably because they know the red light cameras will be able to catch your plate number that way. Most cops are probably willing to let it go because they think you're (sort of) obeying the SPIRIT of the law if not the letter.

Some cops will bust you for failing to meet the LETTER of the law. Because they can or because of their training, or because there's a push from their commanding officers to "crackdown" on those damn racers.

Just because stores sell it doesn't make it legal. How many people have headers and air intake systems without a carb number? The stores are out to make money not to try to keep you from getting a ticket.

Like etli said.....pay attention to the fine print on a package..."for off road use only" is very common in the world of aftermarket car parts.

Nice excuse but the cop will still give you the ticket. It's a fix-it ticket shouldn't cost that much.

i guess it depends what kinda car u drive.... my front plate was off for the first 6 months... then one day.... during my oil change, my car's front bumper was violated.... anywho...... i hafta agree to the fact that cops do let ppl go, as u can see.... not all cops are traffic based.... my dad has no problem wid his camry that has his license place sticking on dash.... if i were u, i'll use the license plate relocator.... i dun wanna risk it....
