Possibly Found Thief...
So about 6 weeks after Scion Night 2 my rims/tires were stolen. Almost a year later I run into someone who has the EXACT make/model/size of the set. I ask where they were purchased and was told a name of a place. I tell him I had the exact stuff and got stolen and his face becomes a ghost. Then I get a long story on how it was a pain to get due to back order because his bolt pattern was 5 x 100 and they only had in stock 4 x 100. Funny thing is the rims only have one bolt pattern, and guess what.....its the 9 hole fits both sizes pattern. So story doesnt line up, and I got a funny feeling there mine. There is 2 identifying marks that the police know about from when I had my case. When I see the guy again, and I will because I know where he works, if I see the marks and confirm theyre mine. Other than get ready and line up the biggest ___ whooping of the millenium...what do I need to do legally to get the cops involed and my stuff back? And does anyone know to what extent the police will help?
Did you file a police report? If so call the cops and let them handle it. If you have the marks in the report and they see them they will handle the rest. If you see the car where he works--let the cops know. While it would be nice to exact vigilante justice--is it really worth going to jail for assault??
I told the cops about the ever so minor you gotta know where to look to find it curb rash, size and depth. I didnt tell them the other mark but it would cinch the deal. And the ___ whooping is a last resort I would use if the cops cant do anything.
hopefully everything will work out in your favor. my dad had a first year toyota MR2 with gold honey comb enkeis on it. came outside one morning and the car was sittin on rocks. ____ like this is always gonna happen to people and you just have to hope it aint gonna be you. the only thing you can do about is hope to catch the guys who did it and it sounds like you gotta pretty good chance at doin just that. good luck?
contrary to popular believe, you can't simply say they look exactly like the ones you lost. even if you can point out every single identifying detail. the chances are the cops took a bad report and did not include those detail, and you are most likely going to get involved with cops and court and lotsa hassel. but hope i am wrong, and best luck to you. good to see a theif get caught!
Congrats on potentially finding the person who riped you off, I mean that in itself is a one in a million shot. I truly hope the cops can sort this out for you. My advice would be to get the cops re-involved since you did file a report, and if they sit on their asses and don't do anything about it... well.. lets just say we could get them back if you really wanted to. LOL But uhm, yeah.... I didn't say that.
Scratches won't cut it.... The cops will need serial numbers, or something like that. You could scratch someones rims and tell the cops, "those are mine, I can describe the scratches!" Unfortunately, unless you have some type of unique number stamped into the rim, you can't really prove they're yours.
A long time ago a friend of mine had rims on his Civic stolen. The rims had custom painted red centercaps... Later we found his rims on an old beat up BLUE celica in the ghetto. Same red centercaps! He fought and fought with the cops, but they didn't do anything. They just told us crap like, "maybe he had his centercaps painted too."
Anyway, good luck. But you might be screwed....
Oh, and before you lay down an azz whoopin', just remember, he might not be the one who actually stole them. He could have bought them off of the real theif. Just sayin'.

Engraving them on the inside is always a telltsle way of proving they are yours. I have heard of people taping a letter sealed in an envelope to the inside of the rim with contact info for whoever sees it changing a tire.
Two locks are a good idea, but I have found out (the HARD way) that if someone wants something bad enough, they ARE going to get it. Two (or more) locks sometimes just ____es them off...I have the broken studs to prove it LOL.
Good luck with the recovery process, and I hope they ARE yours....I hate to see someone get ripped off, but hopefully you will get your stuff back.
