All in all, it did seem like Toyota reps were nowhere to be found.

I thought it was OK. They were giving away shirts at random, but we never saw any. We spent much of the night running all over the park trying to figure out where all of the exhibits and freebies were, only to find that we had actually seen everything within the first 20 minutes. I guess I expected more stuff. It seemed a little odd to me. Half of the park was not operating and the music did nothing for me. Maybe it's just because I used to be a Nissan fan, but I don't understand what hip hop and rap has to do with Scions, except for trying to attract a certain demographic they think they're missing. So do they think that by reaching out to the hip hop/rap audience that they are going to attract more buyers? Maybe if they were selling donked Granadas they'd have more luck.

Oh well, all in all I liked seeing the other mods people had on their cars, even if I've actually seen many of them in Lodi already. Cool stuff. I always like to see what lighting mods people come up with. I wish I'd spent more time on the rides. We only went on the Medusa one time, and some people brought the ride to a halt by getting in the fast pass line and arguing with the operators over one of them being to short.

For me, the best part of the event was hanging with our own car club. Hmmm.

TongMan 09-15-2007 07:12 PM

Felt like I was in the ghetto...security racing everywhere where I walked by. Really wrong crowd. I agree that there should be more scion displays...heck, I can display my car. I totally agree that there should be another car show in the front of the parking lot. I walked by and saw some pretty sick rides in the parking lot!

ptang 09-15-2007 07:16 PM

Last year was better, more cars, more venders, more "swag". This year I noticed alot more security and police. ^ And yes there were fights, I almost got knocked over by about ten security guards jumping/tasering a man and a woman who was resisting arrest. Pretty disappointing this year. Bad family environment with some concert attenders.

theoneandonly 09-15-2007 07:20 PM

It's so stupid to try to reach out to the hip-hop people. from what i saw they were just there for a free event to go to where they didn't have to pay that much. It seemed like there were even some gang-bangers there. they were probably the ones causing all the trouble.

x_rayted711 09-15-2007 07:42 PM

KMEL was there last year as well as this year. I, for one, was kinda disappointed with LAST years SN. Boy, I had NO IDEA it was going to get even worse! The pot smell was everywhere, there were people smoking cigarettes in the seats at the shuka show, I felt unsave at times....The only GOOD thing about kmel doing the concert thingy is it kept the lines short for a couple hours!

I really am disappointed in the fact that the last couple years, they have taken away from the 'family' feel and also taken away the 'reward' or 'congrats' the the people that actually OWN Scions or took the time to test drive one! Come on Toyota...get the ghetto out of the event and show the TRUE scion people that you appreciate them! I also missed out on the shirt...second year running! Why don't they give one per ticket holder as you come through the gate? I would even PAY for a shirt like we did at SNII! What the hell?

I do want to thank Toyota for the event, but I don't think we'll be going back next year.

Congrats to all the car owners that had their cars on display. They looked GREAT! It was good to see a few friendly faces among the crowd! You know who you are! Whats it been, a year? LOL.

MovieTeCh 09-15-2007 07:57 PM

I agree with everyone so far... They need to rethink the whole hip-hop thing for next year and leave KMEL's flooding the market with free tickets out of it- THEY are the reason that all the riff-raff was in the park in the first place with their massive ticket giveaways to people that have practically ZERO interest in Scions. This is similar to what happened with this year's Exprescion at Alcatraz: The majority of the crowd for that had NOTHING to do with Scions, and their numbers displaced the legit Scion people that wanted to go but were denied entry because the event was full.

Suggestions for next year:

-RESTRICT ENTRY TO CURRENT AND PROSPECTIVE SCION OWNERS ONLY! Test Drive a Scion, Get tix! Own a Scion, Get Tix!

-NO KMEL ticket giveaways. Period. I don't have a problem with KMEL having a DJ booth or a remote there, but the free-flow of tickets to their demographic for the sake of giving them away has to STOP.

-A bit more of a mix of genres of music. PLEASE.

-More cars on display. Where were the 5-Axis cars this year?

-Put the DJ booth *AWAY* from the display cars. It is really difficult to talk to people about their cars when you have a DJ running 110db right next to you. Last year's car displays were away from the DJ, it was good. Keeping the DJ away from the display cars also keeps the troublemakers away from the display cars: Someone stole all of the display items out of the inside of Biggie's xB...He was right next to the DJ booth, and all the crowds that were around it making it EASY to rip things off.

-Watch the language: I'm not usually a prude, but this is supposed to be a 'family' event, and I was a little embarrassed that my nephews and niece had to sit thru all the foul mouthed wanna be rappers RIGHT NEXT TO THE DISPLAY CARS (see above).

-Where was the schwag? I heard there were just enough t-shirts to give to the people showing and the volunteers. Where were the LED necklaces? The Posters? The water bottles? Hell they could have unloaded all of those millions of sampler CDs and orange dice that they have in storage on that crowd...

Thanks for letting me rant.

I totally agree...and as far as the shwag that both you and I missed out on...I saw more PARK EMPLOYEES wearing scion shwag than people in the park. Truly sad. As I stated in my last post....I WOULD GLADLY PAY FOR A SHIRT TO REMEMBER A GREAT EVENT THAN TO SEE SOME THUG WEARING ONE OVER HIS/HER SHOULDER THAT DOESN"T EVEN KNOW WHAT A SCION IS OR WHAT THE COMPANY STANDS FOR.

Sorry to bash on Toyota on this, because we do appreciate the effort and idea behind it, but something has to change...and until it does, we won't be back.

Yellow_Sub 09-15-2007 08:52 PM

yes the "crowd" could have been better but complaing about this event when half the people there only go to this one scion event each year. all the people complaining about the free stuff. come on. really if you go to many events you already have 49 of everything they were gonna give away anyway! you already got in for free and got waaaaaay shorter lines than you would normaly. the music was alright. if it's not your fav type then thats not their fault. if they played what you wanted than others wouldn't be happy either. some people like it dont rag on it. and to who ever said eujene had the only nice tc there, yes his is very nice he knows i give him props for it but come on the ONLY nice one???? did you look ummmm 36 INCHES to your right and see the raven?? or maybe mike's red tc? or carlos's? (sorry cant remember all the tc's in there i stayed by my car the whole time and couldn't look at everyones). To the person that said the scion corp people wern't around?? wha??? were you looking for them and even know who they are? i had a couple of conversations with mary through out the night and saw jay several times. I do agree with aaron that KMEL needs to not give away tics to everyone and their mom. also that having to yell to answer peoples questions about my car sucked. the ammount of display cars was ok. i can think of a few owners that should have been in but didn't. as for the 5 axis car i believe they may be in boston at scion exposed. honestly if they were there i would have only walked over to them with my friends to show them the cars. if your here in cali you've most likely seen them about 10 times already anyway. All in all thanks to Scion for the event. it was a great event and a great time to hang out with my friends and car club members. i mean no offense e rated but saying your NOT going back to a FREE event bacause you didn't FREE stuff there is kinda shady. just my 2 cents on the night and i know someone will disagree with me on this but oh well.

eujin 09-15-2007 09:17 PM

firstly thanks to Scion corp for another Scion Night :D

out of the last three i've attended, I think Scion Night 2 was best. they had a live rock band playing, totally different crowd then. more laid back, and hyphy kids? zero during that time. it was chill, you could walk around the park and not worry about your car if you were displaying. and they kept count of the Scions in the parking lot to break the record, which this year they didnt even do at all.

the Traxx dj wanna be rapper thing was POINTLESS. my ears suffered at those guys who wanna bust flows that cant even do it to the beat. it was sad, not to mention what the hell was the point in having that in FRONT of the DJ setup under that gigantic canopy? the music was clashing with one another, made it hard to enjoy. and it was sad to hear the rappers cussing in the song, while little kids area walking by. you can bust a rap with no cussing lol, look at Will Smith hahaha j/k

i hope this is the last time KMEL helps sponsor the event. We need more live bands and a different genre of music, no more hip hop. i dont mind hip hop, but like everyone else is saying, it brings out the wrong crowd. Mike got his Scion gear stolen from his xB, and then he had an interview later on when a bunch of people bumrushed the camera and were talkin into it, totally messed up his interview..no respect at all man, its just out of control.

well i can say i enjoyed myself this year, actually rode some of the rides, nice to see a lot of the crew there in force. the location for the cars were a lot better than last year, but they could have had more Scions in the park for sure. thanks Scion corp

last year i already said something about the concert getting alot of non scion people and they were there just for the concert not the scion car show. when i found out who was performing this year i decided it wouldnt be a big lost if i didnt go.

how were the rides? was everything open

I believe that it wasn't just Scion giving the tickets.... it was also the radio station.

I also agree about Scion Night 2 was the best since the location of the car show was the best.

I think you should read my posts again. I never said I wouldn't go back because we missed out on freebies. I won't be going back because:

1. There were a few times I didn't feel safe
2. I have drug tests where I work and should not be subjected to literally 'clouds' of pot smoke as I walk through the park (only in certain areas)
3. This was NOT in any way shape or form, a "family" event....Just listen to the music, look around at all the security and cops, and take a big wiff of air when anywhere within hearing distance of any music, whether live or DJ.
4. There were some VERY nice rides, but not enough of them!
5. The parking lot was COVERED in glass on the way out.
6. What happened to the vendors? We like to look at new parts or accesories and we didn't find anyone with booths set up...kinda weird.
7. KMEL and or the promotion companies involved have really taken away from the Scion owners and potential buyers. If Scion needs help sponsoring this type of event, they should look at a different venue....I don't do the rides anyway.

So please....don't misinterpret what I said before....as this goes much deeper than a freebie t-shirt or flashing plastic necklace.

As said before, Scion night 2 was our favorite one so far. Just MY opinion though.

Yellow, I am happy that you had a good time. We did too, just not as much fun as the year before and SN2 before that. I Thank Scion Corp for this, just there needs to be a few tweaks....

- agreed
- agreed
- there was one five axis car there. I was there.

I was a scion corp product specialist , and there was onw five axis car. it was the tc with lambo doors at the fountain. I was there all night long working.

scion didn't have much schwag because of the hordes of people rushing them (aka my company) while giving them out. if you worked the show you got one , if you showed your car you got one , if you were lucky to get an extra you got one. they had close to 1,000 shirts at the event.

ahh cool sorry.

1. I was guarding my car and there was security there the whole time so i cant comment on this
2. I smelt that ish from a mile away. lol
3.the music deff didn't not provide a family atmosphere
4.25 is was enough were cramed in there as it was. maybe for a diff spot we could have had more but i couldn't even really keep all 4 doors open
5. Once again cant comment since i was inside.
6.last year the vendors got screwed and not many wanted to do it this year.
7. i dont do rides either. we need to do more with live 105. the bfd event is an awesome event each year.

Yes SN2, even though i didnt' really know anyone at the time, was still the best planned and most peaceful one i 've been to. (didn't go to SN1).

Krzd1 09-16-2007 02:46 AM

Here is my nickel.....

Weak sauce.....

(I didn't read everything yet so i'm not sure if this was mentioned)

Here is an FYI

KMEL didn't sponsor this event, they promoted it....

The whole "Club scene" behind the cars, That was thanks to someone in Scion Corp not KMEL......

LIVE 105.3 NEXT YEAR IS A MUST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

i had fun but never really experienced everything said. i watched the music most of the time. Said what's up to some of the SoCal peeps (WaterDragon and OMC) and said what's up to bB-squad Squirrel. Squall gave a warm welcome at the door and would love to give him a shoutout and a big thanks for what he did.

the Hyphy thing was pretty cool but everyone is right. it brought the wrong crowd. people were getting stupid and dumb (not in a hyphy manner). i'm into hip-hop and i love the music but seriously, wasn't this thing supposed to be closed to the public?

the exit to me was alright. some people cut from the rear of the tramline to go to the front of the line and i was immediately ticked. security was really bad. people were being really obnoxious. the exit however was ok because i had left about 2 hours early.

how about we send an email to the staff for suggestions? first thing we oughtta suggest is a CLOSED to the public type event. if scion can pay for our tickets, might as well pay for the park to be closed.

SCION rented out the park and paid for fabolous to be there

I ain't hating on Rap or Hip Hop, I make a nice living off of it, but debris is right, they should of had a mixture of everything and with moderation. I'm a bit ____ed cause I know the ppl toyota hired to run the promotion and marketing for these events and I just would hate to find out who's call it was to use KMEL as the primary media outlet. it was like putting an Krispy Kreme next to a Jenny Craig. But I would like to thank the Crews who did attend in always high style. forgive me if I don't name them all. Scikotics, Scion Evolution, bBist.com, Team XtC for So-Cal, Scinergy. I also met SquallLHeart, cool dude. And I saw EvilDave's xB, I'm telling you each time I see it, it's got more and more wicked stuff added in. well in the end. Thanks to all the clubs & ScionLifer's that showed up and supported the culture. Also thanks toyota for the free night but no thanks for the hyphy concert. I beg you not to drop the ball again next year, if there is a next year scion night.

why do they have kmel there? to get the acts , and to introduce scions to urban youth. do they care though? maybe so maybe not? did anyone give them branded surveys? no.

from what i'm being told the next scion night will be much more owner and enthusiast centric

scion uses two marketing/event companies. hoffman lewis. and flavorgroup.

flavorgroup are who incorrectly distributed exprescion tickets and who brings the circus folks and set up the stages. they also brought the traxxmic freestyle thing

hoffman lewis set up the stuff with kmel. and hired my companie to put up the two lighted truss , we did the tickets and scion counting out in the parking lot. 1,367 if i remember correctly , and I did the prodduct demo with the five axis tc.

there was at least 4 scion corporate folks at all times , people from both marketing/advertising companies involved, and scion product specialists.
